MSN Best AI researchers and professors not applying for positions working with the best AI computer at any university in the world. Tip of the iceberg of the damage being done to Florida higher ed by desi and the gang. Professors refusing to apply due to stupid neochristian authoriatism being pushed by desi
Diversity, equity and inclusion are all very good things, at least as I understand them. Essential things. Does that mean the offices dedicated to them never went overboard? Of course not. I don't know if they did or didn't. But I hate that the idea of DEI has become some kind of terrible thing to avoid at all costs.
Any idea is going to have people on the extremes who engage in excessive or outlandish behavior. Judging an idea solely by its excesses is silly. It's like judging the efficacy of vaccines solely based on a tiny percentage of people who have adverse reactions to it. (Unfortunately, as we see on this board, there are rubes who think that way.)
How is one to know whether college students are women or not? Must the admissions office consult the department of biology? [/sarcasm]
I’m on the inside fellas. I promise I’ve talked to several deans and they are all unimpressed. Central admin is still struggling to reorganize. No vision. No direction.
This, the extremes swing the pendulum from one extreme to thr other while those of us in the middle have to deal with the damage done everytime it hapoens
Yeah its weird to me anyone celebrating this like it's some monumental victory. And it's also weird to me people that feel this is a collosal setback. I realize I'm just an average white guy so DEI isn't geared towards me, so maybe my bias just doesnt let me get why this is a battleground
Everyone knows the adams apple is the tell. If you dont, you might want to avoid certain places to avoid any unpleasant surprises
Was a joke about a certain Supreme Court justice who explained that she could not define what a woman is because she’s not a biologist.
Well, when you get to send the message to students and faculty of color they're not welcome here, what's a few people losing their job?
Hunter was vice-chairman of the Board of Amtrak (appointed by President Bush). He also had a lot of expertise in corporate governance. If you think that you need to be an oil and gas expert to be on the board of an oil and gas company, you might want to look up the backgrounds of the folks on the board of ExxonMobil.
Once again you are talking about a vaccine. My question is why does he only talk about vaccines? The surgeon general should be discussing a multitude of health related issues
What strange is that the right wing doesn't recognize the hypocrisy. Florida university's were told to prioritize diversity. DeSantis appointed a person who was in charge of DEI at JP Morgan. Brian Lamb, as a member of the Florida board of governors initially stressed the need for diversity. Then when DeSantis decided he wanted to run for president both Brian and DeSantis had a an about face. Why would you appoint someone who is the DEI leader at an organization if you are against DEI? His name is Brian Lamb look him up not hard to find
Slavery & Segregation - Centuries DEI - less than a decade Not a coincidence that the Conservative mindset that was for the former, is now against the later.
