awful. Trump and maga killed the border bill that would have helped.

Murphy says GOP voted against border bill to keep border ‘chaotic,’ help Trump campaign

"A “border deal that actually reduced the flow of illegal immigration, that would be good for [President Biden] politically. That is Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), giving away the GOP’s cynical game on fixing the border. Cramer said this without a hint of shame in explaining his opposition to immigration reform."

Trump’s cynical sabotage of immigration reform | The Hill

By any honest reckoning, this is the most restrictive migrant legislation in decades. Previous immigration talks have involved trading security measures for legalizing more immigration. There is little of the latter in this bill—nothing for nearly all of the Dreamers who were brought here illegally as children, no general pathway to citizenship or green cards for most illegal immigrants already in the U.S. “

Pandemic isn't over. CDC still wants people wearing masks and getting booster shots. It's the gift that keeps on giving. So yes, Biden could enact Stay in Mexico tomorrow.

Yeah, perhaps, next time, you shouldn't insult people for not knowing your untrue facts. Just a thought.

If the recent special election in the New York 3rd is any indicator Trump's sabotage of the compromise bill on border security could end up backfiring in a big way. Let's not forget that the bill was endorsed by the union representing Border Patrol Agents and as well some of very conservative Republicans who aren't in Trump's pocket. Although it's only been a couple of weeks, just a reminder of the result of that swing district election.
Leaning Into Migrant Woes, Suozzi Paves Election-Year Path for Democrats
In the heart of Long Island, where Republicans have won every major election in the last three years, Tom Suozzi fought through ripping political headwinds to claim victory on Tuesday in a special House election, seizing a coveted swing district that had been held by George Santos.

Mr. Suozzi’s eight-point win flipped one of the five House seats Democrats need to retake the majority in November, giving the party a badly needed shot of optimism. But his campaign also provided something that may prove more valuable, a playbook for candidates across the country competing on turf where President Biden and his party remain deeply unpopular.

The strategy went something like this: Challenge Republicans on issues that they usually monopolize, like crime, taxes and, above all, immigration. Flash an independent streak. And fire up the Democratic base with attacks — in this case, nearly $10 million in ads — on the abortion issue and former President Donald J. Trump, the likely Republican nominee for the White House.

Just because a booster is recommended doesn’t mean we are in a pandemic. They also recommend a flu shot annually because the flu is endemic, much like Covid has become.

There are mask requirements at many hospitals. You could make the argument that since there are still mask requirements and we aren't checking any illegals for covid then reinstate Stay in Mexico. Simple as that.

The mask requirements are at hospitals and other healthcare facilities like nursing homes. The purpose of the masking requirement in those facilities is the protection of vulnerable patients. It's not a remotely universal requirement or even recommendation.

Exactly, it's not the spring of 2020 any more. We didn't know as much about covid in those early days.

Oh Ok. Thanks. So they are in danger. Sounds perfectly plausible to then say covid is still a danger. Stay in Mexico is back on! Simple as that and the border issues are mostly resolved.

Wow! Trump looked at our southern border a LOT, and that is super impressive!

If I were a Trump supporter, I'd actually be wondering why he did basically nothing more than Biden did wrt immigration and the border, in about the same amount of time. I mean, that was (is) Trump's signature issue, and he did absolutely NOTHING that left a lasting impact. He really just kicked the can down the road and left the same mess that he found. And his party controlled both houses of Congress for several years!

I'd feel conned, really. Like a "cuck", to use right-wing parlance. I mean, these Trump voters have this single highest polling issue, and Trump just totally failed them. It's pretty sad, like watching a repeat playout of spousal abuse. :(

In this thread, people really really excited to vote for a rapist are really really mad about an alleged rape.

    Fascinating.

I offered an answer to this: Because it’s an election year and there is a bi-partisan bill on the table passed by the senate and that would likely pass in the house if it was allowed to be voted on.
It is better than any bill Dems will vote for in a future non-election year.

Sounds like it was more of a war funding bill with a bad border rider, YMMV.

The senate Republicans supported it. Sen. Langford negotiated it on that side. He extremely conservative and very pissed the quislings in the house won’t even vote on it. It would pass in the house if Spkr Johnson allowed a vote. That was the best bill that is likely to be available for a spell.

Yet, it’s quite possible Senate republicans would have rather sent a clean immigration bill to the House but in the “negotiations” were forced to accept a bill that included funding Israel, Ukraine, and possibly other programs.

It would have much better for the nation if all of those matters had been separated into clean stand-alone bills.
