Why is the current administration only now “expressing” concern about the number of illegal/undocumented immigrants crossing the southern US border?

WRT your comment, I guess a death at the hands of an illegal is no big deal when it’s not a relative or close friend of yours?

Good try. Swing and a miss again! Biden could enact "stay in Mexico" today and that would be a huge deterrent. You know it. But back to playing politics "bro".

If he had the power already, why would Trump have felt the need for Title 42 in the first place? It was always intended to be temporary.

Some of you are so partisan that it removes basic logic from your analysis.

No, I don't know that. I looked quickly and saw that he was there last year. Saw no reference to it being his first time ever.

Somewhat silly analysis. George HW Bush was a career bureaucrat/politician and lived in Houston-how many times did he go?

You don't have to go somewhere to fix things.

Personally, Biden is very late admitting the border is a problem. I readily admit that. But going there is performative and doesn't really solve anything, any more than going to Flint would solve the water problem.

Frankly don’t care what you “said”. Apparently, I’ve asked you a direct question you are unable or unwilling to answer.

Geez. Is this the adult, intelligent conversation that you accuse others of not having?
Yes, a murder of anyone is a tragedy. A human life taken, family and friends left with a grieving hole in their lives. It's a big deal.

Yeah, except for that part about it being illegal, and having no way to justify it under Title 42, sure, Biden could do it and have it shot down by courts the same way Trump was pre covid…

OR, the Republicans in Congress could do their job and pass the bipartisan bill and fix it permanently….

but American citizens are here legally. whether a perverted he/she, a sick liberal, an evil pastor or a wealthy pedo they were already here. and i'm all for putting these people down for good if they touch a child. the stupid argument liberals make is it's already happening here. okay, why import more of it? why accept these criminals into the country at all? a very small percentage of them have an asylum claim. very few and we can vet them. the rest of them are really claiming economic asylum, which in turn burdens the citizens economically already here.

and back to the pastors. where do you think the pedo's go to find the kids? they go where they can be around children and where they have cover. that's in the schools, the church and all places where children reside.

We have to let murderers and rapists come across our borders to "save our democracy.,"

I appreciate you admitting that he is at least late to the party. I will say though that it has been a standing tradition in this country for the President and or Congressmen to visit sites of great concern by this country in a timely manner. How bad was W treated because he flew over New Orleans and hadn't stopped yet, Biden waiting a year to visit the tragedy in Palestine Ohio. Is it useless, I wouldn't go that far, because it puts a national focus on the issue at least for a news cycle. Living in SWFL, the time spent and accomplishments by Desantis here, then Biden coming to Ft Myers beach was greatly appreciated, just from the standpoint the rest of the country gets a taste of what the locals are contending with.

I completely agree that it’s very effective with regard to creating or continuing awareness of people impacted by natural or man made disasters, like a hurricane or train wreck

But in my opinion standing on the banks of the Rio Grande to make a speech isn’t really necessary for that awareness when the border is in the news all day, every day, and until a bill was recently put on Speaker Johnson’s desk, considered an existential threat to our democracy by one of our two leading political parties. It’s just theater.

Seems there’s plenty of border awareness without the performative act of a president or candidate going there to make a speech.

I don't disagree but politicians do what politicians do best!! Photo ops! I do have to add this though. I have to take back all of my criticism that I and many leveled at Fetterman of Pa. He actually said we need to take H2 passed by the house and the recent senate border bill passed and compromise with these bills being the basis to get a bill they can agree on. I'm not sure how serious it will be taken or if there is even a chance, but he is the first democrat I have heard in a while that is accepting how right leaning the house is and in order to accomplish anything they to try and work it out.

I still can't believe people are defending Biden's open borders policies. Pathetic...

Remain in Mexico was only legal under pandemic laws. With no pandemic, under what authority does a POTUS have to tell people wanting asylum in the US they have to stay in a different country? One that is autonomous and not under US legal jurisdiction.

Remain in Mexico was also a humanitarian nightmare. If it is reinstated, humanitarian groups like the ACLU plus international groups will sue to end it. Mexico is also against the policy, and would sue the US to end the policy. There's also the practical issues.

The number of migrants coming is about 4X what was coming during the pandemic. The number of immigrants waiting in Mexico would quickly swell to tens of thousands in every entry area. This would be problematic for several groups, including school children, with American ancestry, who live in Mexico, but cross the border daily for school. Children make this trip daily in Nogales, and making them walk through an immigrant shanty town full of humanitarian issues is ripe for a child getting hurt.

And what happens if and when the immigrants get tired of waiting? The W. White House released a figure years ago that stated $650 million of goods come in from Mexico daily. What happens if those waiting in Mexico decide to stage a protest and stop all vehicles from coming in to the US? Or, what happens if these migrants decide they are tired of waiting, and all rush the border at the same time in a coordinated effort?

It's not like these immigrants are going to come to the border and see a "closed" or "cerrado" sign, sigh, turn around, and return home. That's moronic thinking. There have been people crossing this border for work for generations, and to think an issue this large can be solved with simple thinking is pure stupidity.

Meanwhile, we have labor shortage issues that need be addressed. And a large group of people coming here looking for work. It's not that simple, but the migrants can go along way in helping fix many of the issues. How about we do background checks and allow those with no criminal history a work visa? And deport those that have criminal histories? Not perfect, but much better than what we currently have today.

I like my boarders open, not closed off. If they are getting meals and a place to stay in return for payment, they can at least be outgoing and gregarious.

    board·er
    /ˈbôrdər/
    noun
    1. 1.
a person who receives regular meals when staying somewhere, in return for payment or services.
