We could have certainly matched for Hamilton..he isnt a $7m a year guy. He also is the conduit from Texas that got Lagway out of Texas. I assume we threw an equal amount at him to stay but facing a likely 5 win season isnt good for your career. I assume he moved on for a safer scenario. IMO if Lagway doesnt get the reigns somehow and Im not being disrespectful to Mertz by all means I think its going to be tough to hold him and you can be double DAMN sure Hamilton will be all over Lagway like a bum on a ham sandwich. If he somehow gets really solid playing time or inherits the starters role somehow (injury?) and shows the world who he is as a Gator we have a chance. Let him get a few minutes a game and a few passes a game like Etienne was afforded and we likely will be discussing Lagways arm length this time next year sad to say. He is our future and ATM just fired a big warning shot across our stern for next year.
I would be happy with an NCAA rule that no player can transfer to a school where a coach from his current team has taken a job with a new team for at least a year. For example, since Texas A&M hired Hamilton from Florida so for the next year no player from Florida can transfer to A&M unless they sit out a year. It goes back to transfers having to sit a year and in the business world companies have employees sign non-compete contracts all the time that are usually a year long.
