I have no idea why the French President (Macron) would go public with statements about possible, (can't rule it out) NATO "active" participation in Ukraine. He has his own agenda. He should be lobbying NATO and the US to release military aid or he is going to find the Russian border will soon advance hundreds of kilometers west, closer to France, and other NATO countries.

There was no wall to wall news coverage and digital media, so I agree the average American did not know. However, almost everyone in Washington DC knew or suspected and were spreading the whispers. Though, I do agree knowledge of his diminished capacity was no nearly so wide spread as the concerns over Biden.
