Stetson hasn't left their home field yet, and won't until they make a mid-week trip to GA on March 6. Opening weekend they hosted West Virginia. Friday they lost 4-6, Sat won 7-5 and played a double header Monday, winning 5-4 and losing 5-7. This past weekend they hosted Maine, Army and Fordham. Beating Maine 12-2, losing to Army 8-13 and beating Fordham 9-1. I wonder if there's a sports booking agency out there who knows the numbers on our win/loss ratio whenever wafting is forecasted by @Gatorgal04.
It's Luke McNeillie on the mound for us Tuesday in Deland. I've been waiting for this day since the end of fall. McNeillie looks one of several freshmen that gives Sully really good options from the young pitching staff. I'm not sure he can go 4-5 innings yet but I'm sure Sully has a pitch count in mind. Here's some game notes.... McNEILLIE'S MIDWEEK Milton, Ga. native Luke McNeillie will make his collegiate starting pitching debut on Tuesday at Stetson. The true freshman righty made his first-career appearance on Saturday vs. Columbia, picking up the win with 2 2/3 scoreless innings on three hits and one strikeout. As a senior at Milton High School, McNeillie was named All-Region 6-7A First Team and the Milton HS Pitcher of the Year. No. 4 Florida Battles Stetson, Bethune-Cookman in Midweek Action - Florida Gators A bigger key will be who Sully uses after him on Tuesday. As usual that also depends on the score of the game as we go along. We still haven't seen Menendez yet so here's hoping he gets in on Tuesday or maybe better at home on Wednesday.
This is very exciting for the future seeing all these freshmen pitching early in the season. Midweek games are always so fun to watch to see who might get a chance in the weekend games. But, getting to see freshmen pitch for the first time is a real thrill.
Glad to see McNeillie get the nod. I had him circled as mid week SP for the pre-season and someone who can help in middle relief when SEC season begins. He looked sharp in the scirmmages that I attended: FB in the 92-93 range hit 94 a few times but his change-up is excellent and it's remarkable how good for a young guy. Also has a nice curve. Three pitches that he can throw for quality strikes. Hoping to see Menendez get some work as well. Need a reliable LHP out of the Pen! PS: for the most part, the newby pitchers are looking very good in the early going- better than a couple of the vets.
…. There I saw one I knew, and stopped him, crying: 'Stetson! ‘You who were with me in the ships at Mylae! ‘That corpse you planted last year in your garden, ‘Has it begun to sprout? Will it bloom this year? ‘Or has the sudden frost disturbed its bed?…
It was mentioned on the broadcast over the weekend that he would probably be held out until the weekend series for precautionary reasons. Makes sense to me. Plus, maybe then we can see Albert (not the Alligator) or some other player (not Thomas, for me) get a chance.
