This really shows the resilience of Bidenomics. Not only are 401k balances up, but there are more people saving as well. 20% more millionaires. Nice. Meanwhile gas is still under $3 here and so are eggs. Personal savings is still above every year prior to covid. Rate is still under a bit as people are spending well, regardless debt services are all time lows.

Soaring number of Americans are now 401(k) millionaires

The number of folks with $1 million or more saved in their 401(k) accounts jumped 20% from September to the end of December, according to Fidelity Investments.

All told, there were 422,000 retirement savers in Fidelity 401(k) plans sporting balances of seven figures and beyond as of Dec. 31, up from 349,000 at the end of September and 299,000 at the end of 2022.

There were also 391,562 IRA millionaires on Dec. 31, up from 338,725 at the end of September and 280,320 at the end of December 2022.

"We are encouraged to see retirement balances increase so dramatically this quarter, reflecting the improving market conditions and enabling retirement savers to see significant gains in their account balances and retirement preparedness," Michael Shamrell, vice president of thought leadership for Fidelity Workplace Investing, told Yahoo Finance.

To be fair 422k is like .3 percent of the total working population.
On the flip side, someone.could have rollovers and 401ks at other old jobs that aren’t being counted.
So it doesn’t tell you much, other than “the stock market is up”, which we already knew.
All things being equal though, it’s better to see it up than down.

Bidenomics minting new millionaires left and right.

Trumpenomics had the rubes hoarding toilet paper.

It is just one broker reporting, though, not all 401k holders.

11.5% of the population was under the poverty line in 2020. In 2022 (the last year of official data), the percentage of the population under the poverty line was...11.5%.

Agree. They are about a third of the market, but seem to have a disproportionate number of the larger high salary companies. So the number above might be half the total.

Why don't they just work harder instead of expecting the government to save them?

Which is why i included the overall savings levels and low debt ratios. They are one of the largest though.

They should report avg return men v. women. Women stomp men in investing. Brokerages don't like to report these #s, b/c women stomp men due to being less confident & hence TRADING less.

been watching march madness and do brackets like recruiting since I was a kid. My pics usually mirror someone like Seth Davis or Bilas and I lose 3 out of 4 years to my wife who makes picks based on uniforms, colors and if the coach is good looking.

The more you trade the more your broker makes. I buy a spider fund and only look at in when I do my taxes.

crsp, crm, and panw have also been very good to me in the last year. wish I would have dumped more of my boeing stock and bought even more. fortunate to say that I am in the 20%. sadly, this stock market wealth is only increasing the void between the haves and have nots
