Something I meant to add to my last postgame notes. I wanted to highlight the good job Heyman has been doing behind the plate. When he is back there we are not seeing many balls get away with runners on. Plus I watch many of his throw downs to second in between innings and most of them are strikes from the belt down to the right side (baserunners side) of the bag. Donay's or Garrison's throws tend to wonder more or bounce into second. We haven't had many runners attempt to steal so hard to comment on throwing runners out but I believe, with Heyman behind the plate, we will see fewer attempts with so many strike throws down to second. Credit to Luke for all the work he put in to improve his game behind the plate during the off season.

Other than Gomberg and Hunter Jones- whose ERA is infinite- the frosh haven't given up a run. That's in less than 25 innings, but it's a pretty nice start. If they keep it up, it will be hard to feel bad about the guys who transferred out.

Replying to another post: I also noticed Heyman's good warmup throws. He's the most consistent in that skill since Mike Zunino, whose every throw was a foot off the ground and a foot to the right side of the bag. That's a high standard to meet, but he's closer than most.

Good reply Boss. I like the Zunino comparison because I was thinking the same but thought it was too early to throw out that big of a comparison. Heyman certainly has the potential with his bat as well. I expect him to go on a hitting streak some time this season the way he looked in scrimmages.

Also I decided not to include Hunter Jones numbers because they are unrealistic at this point. I am hoping his next three innings are with scoreless innings and then we can see what we both know what he can do.

Well scratch McNeillie and Neely off the zero ERA list. Freshmen are the only ones left.

I know it is early but those 2 guys hitting a combined 7 for 40 against the schedule we have played to date is still concerning.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Shelnut at 3B and Yost or Guy in the outfield tonight. They both have a really small sample size of ABs. Albert has been doing well, keep him at 2B while Kurland is out. Is Landon Russell still injured?

He had hand surgery at the beginning of the month and was expected to miss at least 12 weeks.

Glad to see Heyman getting some appreciation for his behind the plate abilities....

Saw that Yoel Tejada, who transferred from UF to FSU, got a start last weekend for the Noles.

Only lasted 3 batters.....he walked all 3 on 12 pitches. Never threw a strike. Kid looks to have upside and I hated to see him leave, but lots to figure out

On the flip side, Matt Prevesk has been leading off for UCF and hitting 429

Tejada is a bad apple. I was told he was actively rooting against his own team during the regionals. I'm glad he's FSU's locker room problem now.

Glad Prevesk is doing well. He seemed like a good kid. I wish we had a role for him here, but understand him wanting to move on.

    1) Donay makes his first start at catcher.... 2) Freshman Hayden Yost makes his first career start in LF... 3) Evans moved up to the 3 spot in the order...

Maybe playing a position will help Donay. More time to be instinctive, less time to worry about the next at bat.
