With only 4 games left on the SEC schedule before heading into the postseason, I'd like to see our coaching staff and team focus on these areas (I'm sure Golden is way ahead of me on this), as I think they're our keys to success, and have been so far: Rebounding - need + rebounding edge Turnovers - keep to < 10 a game Zone - continue to work on our zone offense Press - work on passing our way out of the press, Condon and/or Haugh help FTs - continue to be aggressive taking it to the hoop, win FT +/- and MAKE THEM Don't be too 3pt reliant - this is when we get scoring droughts and teams make runs Enhance our strengths, mitigate our weaknesses. To me these are all very manageable, very doable for this team. If we do these things I think we can make a deep tourney run What does everyone else think? Any things I'm missing?
Developing a killer instinct. Stop getting 15+ points leads and allowing teams to go on 7, 10 and 12 points runs in response. If we can blow a team out by 20, take advantage of it and finish the half or game strong. Improve defensive rebounding. First shot defense has been decent even vs Bama, it's the 2nd and 3rd shots that killed us vs Bama and allowed LSU to hang around in the first half.
Agree about all especially the handling the press. Vandy also tried it in the first half and Richard and our bigs (move!! help out!) sucked at it. We must improve that if we want to win in the tournament
Shoot free throws, work the ball into Micah and let him shoot more shots, work on breaking the press, get Kugel and Aberdeen into the game more and let them get a role they can commit to. Let Haugh bomb away from the 3.
I want to see us pound Mizzou on the boards. That's been our strength all season, but we've kind of slipped there the last two games.
I'd like to see Micah try a short hook or two in the next game. We need him to become a scoring option.
yes missed this one, definitely. learn how to keep leads. And yes 2nd and 3rd chance points have been our achilles heel the last 2 games
yes Haugh's 3pt shooting has been a welcome surprise. His form is great, looks like it's going in each time and really spreads the floor for us
I like the progress on offense with Condon and Haugh. Haugh is demonstrating he can hit the three. I like his shooting form. IMO a "key" for UF in terms of making big things happen is for the "bigs" to pick up the offensive pace just a bit more from mid range. All of them, including Samuel, have a decent mid range shot. Imagine if Micah, Condon and Haugh were able to pick up that shooting % just a touch more.
On working against the press, anyone on the floor has to go to the ball, don’t stand flat footed. this is where we have turnovers, the person receiving the ball has to be moving to the ball.
Despite shortcomings, there's enough talent and grit. We need one or two guys to decide there's no more losing and get everyone to step up. It's what was needed to win the close losses. Someone to call the huddle before overtime at Bama and let everyone know we're WINNING the effing game! I've often seen Richard be the one talking in the huddle. Love him but he's not that guy.
