Two draft resolutions are being circulated by Henry Barbour, a national committeeman from Mississippi, for consideration at the RNC's upcoming March meeting in Houston. Barbour said support for the resolutions among RNC members is growing but he does not yet have the needed cosponsors, and any resolutions would ultimately be nonbinding. ............................ One of Barbour's proposed resolutions says that the RNC and its leadership will stay neutral throughout the presidential primary and not take on additional staff from any of the active campaigns until a candidate has the needed delegates to be the nominee. The second resolution says the organization will not pay the legal bills of any candidate for federal or state office but will instead focus its spending on efforts directly related to the 2024 election. “The RNC has one job. That’s winning elections,” Barbour said. “I believe RNC funds should be spent solely on winning elections, on political expenses, not legal bills.”

Trump's showing in South Carolina, while technically a victory, was actually a disaster, according to pundits. Trump was basically running as an incumbent, someone with a history of being president, and he lost 40% of the REPUBLICAN vote in a southern (and very red) state. The disaster was described as a 5-alarm fire. Trump can't win the general election with this kind of performance. Seems like a large percentage of the people do not want to see the Orange con-man return to the White House. So sad for him. As much as I would love his to be true, I think it is a remarkable case of twisting facts to reach a conclusion. Trump easily beat Haley in her home state, and that effectively means the race has turned to Biden v Trump. I don’t think there is any semblance of reality to reach a conclusion that suddenly SC is going to vote Blue in a general election. It’s not going to happen.
There won't be enough never-Trumpers in a place like S. Carolina to flip it blue. But 40% of the R party not voting for Trump may be significant, especially in swing states. It all depends on what percentage of this 40% falls in line and still votes Trump, what percentage doesn't vote at all, what percentage votes 3rd party, and what percentage, if any, votes for Biden. Even if it's 10% of the total that doesn't fall in line, that would likely be enough to give swing states, like Arizona and Pennsylvania, to Biden.
The problem, though, is that Biden has the same issue — right or wrong, he is not energizing voters. Trump energizes his base, but Biden does not energize his. The real motivation for Biden voters is the zeal to vote AGAINST Trump. Will that be enough to secure a huge turnout?? In 2016, Hilary was such an uninspiring candidate that republicans were able to out-vote her in the key states, y the thinnest of margins, and the post-election showed that it was because Hilary could not get the same turnout as Obama received; whereas the Republican turnout was very consistent. 2020 has a huge voter turnout. But 2024? The only Arianne is whether Biden can generate enough energy to get people off their butts and go to the poll. We know the Trumpeteers are doing everything possible to make voting onerous(culling the convenience of absentee voting, convenient drop-offs, etc.). Will a Biden ticket motivate like 2020 (when we were lead to believe Biden was a one-term candidate?
