I had a feeling we’d see Shelly on at least one of the corners at some point. I did think we’d see Albert and Mummau get some work in the infield first though. Missing the two games last weekend has everything all screwed up. The identified core group of starters needs work. The older guys are going to get extra opportunities to start. We got to see some of the freshman pitchers we’ve been pining for. Seeing Yost and Brookins get a little work right now. It’s still early in the year.

Side note, I’ve been calling Albert a freshman for months, lol. I didn’t realize he’s senior and this is the only year we’ll get out of him. Dang, I was hoping he was one of the young guys we’d have locked and loaded, ready to go next year.

That was his only hit of the weekend. Batting average continues to plummet against some not so great pitching.

Even though this resulted in a double play, its very worthy of note, as many on here have now learned, Robertson is so much better trying to hit balls to left on a consistent basis. Even though this was caught by the SS, it was a line drive that could have easily driven in a run with Guy on second. The point it when Robertson goes oppo he is much more likely to hit a line drive over the SS head, a hard hit ball thru the infield left of second, or get a double down the LF line. Sure he still days without getting a hit when he tries to hit where the pitch is, but results matter and going oppo for him gets results.
Edit: I'm not there so I assume the SS was to the left of second and not in the shift.

The guy who caught it was to the left of second, and Guy had no chance.

It sounded like a well hit ball. Robertson has been lining many a batting practice pitch over the SS head all spring in practice. So this one sounds like it was just a little low off the bat compared to his usual.

My honest opinion of the Gators is that just like last year and before, they take way too many down the groove strikes. Then they swing at bad pitches.

I had a SIL, two nephews and a niece in town mostly to see my MIL but to also see us so I missed seeing all three games in person. Saw most of it on TV, though. The two nephews and SIL live in Europe so we only see them about once a year. The niece lives in Boston.

I am very impressed with the freshmen arms on this team. They can get guys out on secondary pitches. That is awesome for freshmen.

It’s the best freshman pitching class we’ve seen in at least 5 to 6 years… Maybe longer and next year looks like it could be at this level next year. Sully is a great recruiter and truly enjoys the recruiting process. That means a lot that he enjoys it!!!

Isn’t it a great thing that Mikey stuck to his mentality as he knew he was a good ball player. I will continue to say it, the kid is a flat out winner, and a great representative of our university. A couple of the reasons I was concerned to say the least when people weren’t overly positive about him last year as I remembered, he was 18 years old. Many thought he would transfer and I thought that was absolutely not a choice… Again glad he stayed with us as he’s going to be an already is actually a great gator!!!!

A lot of talented young arms. I just hope we can hold onto half of them. Break out the NIL money.
