Duke's Kyle Filipowski got swarmed by Wake fans today and apparently sprained an ankle. I don't care about the celebratory moment for the fans. Celebrate in the stands, outside the arena, at the pub, or at your crib. Audience members don't belong on the stage at the theater or comedy club. Will Smith didn't belong on the stage when he slapped Chris Rock. Audience members don't belong on the concert stage uninvited.

Quick . . . why does the Swamp not allow field storming? We all know why. Best I can tell, the "reward" is fan euphoria and potentially a memory. I bet those of us who attended special UF hoops/football/etc. games w/o storming the court or field still have great memories. And what about the risk? IMO the risks far outweigh the perceived rewards. No need for fans to make themselves a part of the action.

We stormed the court once a few years ago in basketball, don’t remember who against. Only time in all my gator years, made me legit angry. We should always expect to be competitive at home in every single sport. Have some pride.

Players should be allowed to defend themselves.

Couldn’t agree more. There needs to be severe penalties for the school that does not have the sufficient security resources to keep A court storming from happening.

Apparently Filipowski‘s injury was severe enough. He had to be carried off the court. That’s an utter shame. If the injury is such, it decreases his effectiveness at the end of a critical season. I think the Duke should be suing wake for damages. I’m usually not one who advocates litigation, but having fans run onto and injure a player who is just trying to leave the court is just absurd. Stop the madness!

Players should never be in a position where they have to.

The losing team should get the win.

That's the only way to stop it......

Disagree. That punishes the players who earned the victory. In Europe, apparently soccer teams lock the fans out when they cross the line. Next game is players and family members only - no fans. Unfortunately, that makes too much sense to work in the U.S. where $$$ rules. Like Churchill once said . . . (nevermind).

This. Wake's next 2 "home" games against Duke should be with no fans to send a message. The ACC won't have the integrity to do that, but it's the obvious course of action.

They had a graphic on TV (SECN) and the ACC is the only conference that doesn't punish with fines (from tiny to SEC painful) for court and field storming. $100K first time, $250K second time. $500K thereafter. I was trying to think of the last incident in the SEC and it was only 2-3 days ago. I hadn't heard but it has been a busy week. LOL! :)

SEC Program Fined $100K For Storming Court After Upset Win on Wednesday

PS -- That $100K apparently goes to Kentucky (visiting school) too.

Edit: They showed it again. Big Whatever only punishes after 3rd offense. Big East only $5K.

  15. I mean it's obviously not safe but the media members on their high horse now just because something happened to almighty "DUKE" have undoubtedly had other reactions over the years.

You’re right that @Bazza’s idea would punish the winning players, but it would also punish the fans in the arena and the school in charge of the arena safety. This would accomplish the ideal goal of aligning the interests of the responsible entity with those of the greater community.

Court and/or field storming is a terrible idea. You can see one of those punks shoving Filipowski in the back.

A 'neck at Mississippi State blindside punched a UF equipment guy in the storming after they upset us in football back in the 90s. Concussed the kid, knocked him out. Spurrier was furious and when we played them the next year he refused to call off the Gators even with a huge lead ran up the score to make his point.

The community is the responsible entity. I hardly blame the schools for mob behavior. Like the Euro strategy better.

It was against Auburn (2021?) And was only a few rogue fans. I think we can strike that from the record as a proper court storming and hold our heads high that Florida is better than that :D

Well, the SEC has a stiff fine but that hasn't fixed the problem. So raise it from $100,000 to $1 million and watch the schools start to enforce the rule.
