We will have Kugel back for our home game with them, and I think we need to put Aberdeen on Spears early to be as physical with him as possible. He pushes off on almost every possession. A bigger guard won’t allow him to do that.
Announcers and Refs … We are always blaming somebody lol. And you wonder why Gator fans are a laughing stock ! Just quit crying . There were plenty of opportunities to win . We didn’t! And what does the TV folks have to do with it ? They were fine .
He also said that some 50-50 calls didn't go our way. That's typically about as critical as coaches get on officiating in post game comments. The foul disparity is one way to look at this. Bama's aggression on offense and defense doesn't seem congruent with the way the game got called. Listening to the announcer always talking about "continuing or powering through contact" but not saying that on the other end of the court is telling. Yeah, of course everything we see is colored by bias but take a look at how that disgustingly dirty play went viral and the recognition that UF got called for a foul. Seems like most neutral fans are looking at that and saying WTF. Yeah, maybe Gators should have adjusted their game more because of the way the game was being called. I dunno but I sure as hell don't get upset by message board opinions that we got jobbed. We did.
Yeah, you can still call a foul on him occasionally as he pushes defenders out of the way. I guess having one of our guards getting called for a foul in the same situations just means he didn't want it enough.
And here I hought we were a laughing stock because our marquee sport teams keep losing. I certainly wasn't "wondering" about that. I know it's impossible to be objective but an objective observer might expect to see officiating bias in games involving schools from Alabama. A referee might want a little extra security calling a game fairly on a Bama home court. Now I know I just seeing all this through Orange and Blue glasses and there still is an old oak tree in Toomer's corner and that was just an inadvertent elbow thrown at Condon and...
Wingtree is largely out of touch with reality. The very fact that not only did we have the opportunity to win but were in control of the game but for crucial calls that went Alabama’s way begs the question as to objectivity of the officiating and the commentating. They crashed the boards with impunity despite being undersized. Spears pushed off every possession. Calls were not made against Bama including the flagrant foul. For Wingtree to ignore this is beyond baffling. When you have millions of people watching a game, you set the tone for your concept of reality through your comments. You create a tougher aura of resistance for the good guys. For him to say that commentators have no influence on outcomes on a game is laughable.
The two bigs for Bama are very talented white or black. Are they better than Condon and Baugh? That remains to be seen! They have to play a much more vital role in the Bama offense than Condon and Baugh do in ours. I think the motive for making the racial designation was not to disparage, but to point out that in this modern age, such a phenomenon is a rarity. So when you see them putting up major numbers you have greater scrutiny as to how it is occurring. I did not see the plays but apparently several people in this thread alluded to violations that occurred that were not called that should have been which ENABLED or FACILITATED the production of those two Bama players.
I'm objective too. I'm not saying UF is the better team. But I don't have to be a Gator fan to know that was a hose job. It was clear to me the refs helped in deciding the outcome of the game.
Who thinks Gator fans are a laughing stock because some fans complain about refs? Literally every fan base complains about refs on forums every game. It's the most popular comment made during games. Lol.
Agree Wingtee that we should all be respectful when referencing college basketball players. I think twodaparty was referring to pornstache.
I’m glad somebody said it. I didn’t start reading this post till after the Vanderbilt game. I thought by its title we are an elite team that it was going to be a positive post. It’s been all negativity about how we got robbed. When I took away from that game is, we can play with anybody and I mean anybody. Nobody wants us in their quadrant when the matchups are announced.
This team has the potential to be elite. I think we are still about 6 months away. And by then several key players will be gone. But I'm enjoying the ride.
agree with the first part, but we have a ways to go before we are "damn good". Damn good teams don't nearly lose to the likes of uga, lsu and Mizzo at home. I'll give it as "good" and trending up.
