As a reminder, this is not some fringe conference. This conference has generally been a stop for top Republican elected and appointed officials (Trump himself is headlining the event). They are now putting on speakers outright saying that they wish to end Democracy.

I can see it now: if Kyiv falls to Russia it will get applause and cheers at cpac and the gop convention.

Such a frog in a pot situation. Seriously, imagine that in 2014, you told somebody that within a decade, a guy at CPAC would cheer the end of Democracy and that they would finish off the job while celebrating a violent attack on the Capitol, all while speaking at a panel put on by a former and possibly future advisor to the President. The same people desperately trying to ignore this would have declared somebody suggesting that this could happen "deranged."

GOP nutjob Charlie Kirk talked about public hangings for Democrats this week.

Deep in the heart of this style of person is both nihilism and sadism. They really love causing harm to other people.

When they show and tell you who they are, believe them. Their enablers aren't much better.

    WSJ…..

“How Trump Turned Conservatives Against Helping Ukraine”

“Conservative Political Action Conference….Mark Weyermuller, a 63-year-old Chicagoan retired from the real-estate business, offered a similar assessment. “I don’t want to fund the war in Ukraine. The whole thing seems shady,” he said, adding a charge unsupported by evidence: “We don’t even know who the good guys and bad guys are, and we know Joe Biden’s getting paid off by Ukraine.”

“Trump’s always been in love with Putin, but now a big chunk of the Republican Party is as well,” Longwell lamented in an interview. “If you grew up with the Cold War as a backdrop, to watch what’s happening to the Republican Party right now is absolutely staggering. Ronald Reagan would be spinning in his grave.”

Nikki Haley, has harshly criticized his stance. “Trump is siding with a dictator who kills his political opponents,” she said at a recent campaign appearance in South Carolina. “Trump sided with an evil man over our allies who stood with us on 9/11. Think about what that told them.”

" why should we care about Ukraine"... fast forward to sometime in the future... " I don't live in that state, why should I care?" Appeasement is so effective

Imo it’s a combination of 1)people become numb to it, 2)overwhelmed with so much info distributed on a daily basis 3) indifferent 4) prob most dangerous don’t take the threats serious. See Jan 6th if threats should be taken serious.
    ……but, can’t say we weren’t warned.

Problem is almost the lot of you equate democracy with freedom. It is nothing of the sort.

Posobiec is a moron, and frankly I’m not entirely sure how the collection of losers (Posobiec, Loomer, etc.) who make up the “Trump influencers” on Twitter have managed to amplify their profiles/voices to the extent that they have.

But, however they have done it, I think the fringey hanger-ons that surround the Trump movement are scarier than Donald himself is.

imo that’s a big problem. Before, some of these guys are just ranting at the end of the bar. Now, they’re on social media, etc and considered SMEs that thousands listen to and take serious

Like anything involving branding, they provide a benefit to a group of people. I'd suggest that it is a bit of a permission system for some of their fans to think the things that they are thinking.

Because others invite them in and the pub party doesn't shout them down out of some sort of fear or because they agree with them.
All it takes for evil to prosper is for good men to remain quite and too many that still remain in the party are choosing to remain quiet
