So by this logic, would unicorn dander infusions be considered evidence of lethal unicorns ?

I’m not invoking logic or addressing the evidence for viruses. I’m just noting that your claim isn’t universally accepted and therefore requires a qualifier to be true. There is no good evidence for ghosts, according to GatorRade. There is good evidence for ghosts, according to GatorRade’s neighbors. Both true statements.

Well of course I’m in a small and perhaps tiny minority. That said, what is your opinion on the existential question other than that I have an opinion ? Can the this critical question be discussed without seeking refuge in The Great Cloud of Unknowing ?

Look, sport. You've self-reported that you have had Covid twice. I have never had it and I suspect I have had tens of thousands of times more exposure than you've had between courtrooms, courthouses, security lines, clerk's offices, elevators, deposition rooms, office appointments, jail visits, bars/restaurants, etc. You are absolutely the LAST person on the planet earth I would take medical advice from....the last. You have proven to be the single greatest source of medical misinformation on GC and it isn't even a contest.

The search for a criterion of truth has lasted for thousands of years, and of course I won’t be able to end it here. However, I do believe that this admission of personal humility might point us toward our best of our imperfect options. Since the very notion of objectivity posits that truth is independent of a particular individual’s perspective, the search for truth must necessarily be a community pursuit. As Charles Sanders Peirce put it:

“The real, then, is that which, sooner or later, information and reasoning would finally result in, and which is therefore independent of the vagaries of me and you. Thus, the very origin of the conception of reality shows that this conception essentially involves the notion of a COMMUNITY, without definite limits, and capable of a definite increase of knowledge."

Yes, but this is all beside the point, the point being that the germ hypothesis is the default. Germists can simply wave off the terrain model as an opinion.

Thus, outliers like myself do not accept that we bear the burden of humility when our disputants do not accept that their opinion as precisely that, just an opinion.

Viruses are foundational to conventional healthcare in precisely the same way that Allah is foundational to Islam.

Healthcare practitioners do not search for truth any more than believers in Islam search for the truth.

    LOL!!!!!!!

You have every piece of evidence from even those here who still take the shot to know it is not effective. You do you and cause unnecessary inflammation in your body if you wish. Though I really hope you are not telling family members to jab their kids!

And do not worry. I won’t be getting the Covid shot!

I do not think this is beside the point. Your argument hinges on you being the ultimate arbiter of what is and what is not evidence. My suggestion is that this cannot be the way that we run our affairs, or else we will all have our own personal truths about not only viruses, but also and evolution, atoms, and gravity.

Very well then, what is the arbiter for viruses or no ? Don’t you agree we need to nail this down ? In 2020 we did not get to opine as to their existence.

It has been amply demonstrated that virologists don’t do science.

I am not sure I have ever seen a less educated, less medically knowledgeable about disease transmission "medical expert" in my life. The parents of the first child who gets sick from being in classroom with other children who are reservoirs should sue the school system, and sue Lapado personally, as well as the governor for appointing someone grossly incompetent as "medical expert".

Again, I don’t think we will ever have a criterion for truth, but I do think we need a critical mass to agree on a process for determining truth claims, such as viruses or no. And I believe this process has to involve community level processes.

I personally do think we have mountains of evidence for the existence of viruses, but now that I’ve said that, are you just going to drop your beliefs and receive mine? Of course not. I am just some random person with a correspondingly idiosyncratic set of beliefs. But you do just accept your own beliefs, even though when viewed from the outside, you too are just a random person with a correspondingly idiosyncratic set of beliefs. What’s the difference here? The main difference appears that just by the grace of chance or God, your consciousness happened to land in your body. Why should such an arbitrary occurrence drive our models of reality?

This is where the community comes in. Here’s CS Peirce again: “It is not 'my' experience but 'our' experience that has to be thought of; and this 'us' has indefinite possibilities." Who determines truth? No one in particular. Instead, the closest we can get is the result of a community of diverse and critical inquirers. I believe that community has settled on the positive truth of the existence of viruses, and it got there through a wide variety of means, as the many different inquirers in the biology community had different views on the evidence we had for the claim, as well as the evidence we needed to accept the claim. When I see something different than us, I shouldn’t necessarily just discount my own views immediately and without thought, but I sure shouldn’t just discount the community’s views immediately and without thought.

It would be one thing if we could agree that the germ hypothesis was just another opinion. My problem is that I wasn’t permitted to opine my way back into a job I lost because viruses weren’t opinion. Neither was I permitted to opine my way out of a vaccine mandate for the next job I had because viruses weren’t opinion.

Q I take it? He’s a firm believer of natural immunity and yet he’s caught Covid more than once and I know of a few people who are anti-vax who have caught it three or four times. Legit question, how is natural immunity the best path using this logic when you continuously catch Covid? Lol. It’s just completely asinine trying to argue with these people.
