The latter may very well be the case. Before Smirnoff was indicted Jordan and Comer among a number of other Republicans used language to the effect that Smirnoff's allegation on the FBI Form 302 constituted a smoking gun. Now they're saying that it's not that important and that there is other evidence indicating that foreigners were able to influence Joe Biden through bribes. It's also notable that James Comer threatened to have Christopher Wray held in contempt of Congress because Wray was reluctant to release the unredacted form based on the fact that Smirnoff's testimony was unverified as recorded on the form and shouldn't be considered reliable.

You guys really don't understand real estate developers do you????
What the Trump organization did, goes on in the real estate every day and a business is probably submitting inflated values to a bank as I type this. The banks themselves said they did an independent audit on the values and loaned based on their own audit. If it was out of line, they would have done it. An individual loan, cause for the Bank collapse, is far riskier than this was. It is the hated and Trump Bad, is the only reason this moved forward with a law that has been on the books since like the 1800's that had never been used. You guys have been convinced through the media that Trump is the second coming of Hitler, and when you are fighting Hitler any and all means to defeat are accepted. First, I don't believe he is the second coming, but more importantly is these kinds of rulings set precedent for future rulings. Today's complaint about something can set standing for a long time into the future when Trump is long gone.

Can you provide an example of somebody submitting valuations that were this far off and not being either charged criminally or being sued due to it?

It is really difficult to find where anyone that has done the same thing as an example simply because, everyone one involved won so there was no filing or need for it. Talk to any real estate developer and inflating values to get better rates is an everyday thing. The banks auditing and creating their own value is an everyday thing also. If the banks decide you have over valued to far, they will not give you the money. If they feel the exaggeration is still a good deal for them, they will, then they either get paid back or a bankruptcy occurs for the developer. That did not happen in this case.

Which law are you referring to here? The NY judgment seems to be based on Executive Law § 63(12). Westlaw lists 455 notes of decisions for that law, and I don't think those even include trial court orders and judgments.

Speaking of the Kushners I still recall that their entire organization was very close to bankruptcy because they didn't have sufficient liquid assets to make a large mortgage payment on an office building located on 666 5th Avenue in NYC. The Kushners were rescued when the Qatar Sovereign Wealth Fund signed a 99 year lease on the building providing a large infusion of cash enabling the Kushners to make the payment. Coincidentally at roughly the same time Qatar was taken off the list of countries supporting terrorism.

I would posit that it is difficult to find such an example because there aren't many. Trump struggled to get loans from American banks for a reason. He relied on the Private Wealth group (not the real estate group, it should be noted) at Deutsche Bank after large-scale defaults on his loans for a reason: they were engaged in large scale money laundering and he was assisting their clients. No reputable banking organization would give money to Trump due to his history of lying and not paying back his loans.

I honestly thought Trump wouldn't actually run for potus the first time for this reason. Sadly, I was wrong. He has so many skeletons but his ego overrode any concern he had about those skeletons being exposed.

Maria Bartiromo’s Fox shows pushed the indicted FBI informant’s story more than 200 times in 2023

Surprised we haven't seen anything from the Hunter Biden deposition, who by the way did not plead the 5th at all, let alone hundreds of times, unlike Trump and his kids in their recent Trump Org depositions.

Some fine work by Eric Swalwell to expose the blatant hypocrisy of the continued Biden witch hunt compared to the actual corruption by Trump.

Hunter smacked them around like little beotches. Comer didn't even attend.

Knowing what happened, I WOULD vote for him now.

This is the best opinion piece by far on the subject. The GOP is so entrenched that they will continue to ignore the facts. At this point, they can’t admit they’ve been wrong without losing face, and heaven forbid they do that.

But to be fair, we all can be guilty of that, but we aren’t tasked with running the country.

It’s good to know there are still a few principled and courageous republicans. Sadly, they’re a dying breed.

    What? No! Shocking...

The lying FBI informant was getting paid $600k by people with links to Trump at the same time he started lying to the FBI.
