I didn’t think we checked out well enough, and then late their length and…whether we blocked out well enough to deserve a call or not, I’m not sure. We’ll go back and look. But early on we didn’t do a good enough job keeping them off the glass, and that was a big emphasis for us. I can see a scenario where we lose 3 of our guards. Pullin, Clayton tries out for the NBA, most likely G league (considering he has a daughter now), and Kugel transfers to get a change of scenery. Though I don’t know how much NIL is compared to G League. Need to strike while the iron is hot, and I hope Todd can get the most out of them.
he is getting paid this year, too. but yes…. I totally agree with your point. There is very little roster continuity from year-to-year in college basketball. And I’m sure we will have some heavy losses. And so each team is in a win-now mode. I really, really hate that about the current landscape. There is so little player and team development. It’s also a reason I’ve become such a fan of this FAU team - bc it has… for now… defied what I hate.
Clayton would make more through NIL at Florida than the G League. Our NIL bank is pretty strong. It's one reason Kugel may not transfer imo. He is the highest paid on the team.
Yes. The amount of money collected by the schools should be public as well as the amount paid to each player.
Which honestly really sucks. I don't want to be one of the..."back in my day" guys, but I have to be. I enjoyed Gator basketball more in the pre-transfer, pre-NIL days. I think the freedom of transfers and the NIL are the right way to go about things for the athletes so I wouldn't change it, but selfishly I miss the old way. My favorite Gator team of past was the 13-14 squad and a large part of that is the culmination of watching Prather/Young/Wilbekin/Yeguete develop over the course of their careers. Prather's progression, in particular, was a joy to watch. Now I still watch the games but can say I have very little invested in the individual players.
I think adding buy outs to a contract similar to a coach would help. Not the best thing ever, but it would keep people from transferring as easily.
The school isn’t collecting any money to pay players. Do you think all of your income should be public record?
There are so many ways the NCAA could collectively agree to reform NIL in a way that benefits players, yet also protects them. Instead, they are going to wait for the courts and/or lawmakers to figure it out for them. It's both an amazing time and a terrible time to be college athlete.
I'm not a lawyer. With that said, couldn't they just say if you don't play for this team for x amount of years, you pay back x amount of money? Similar to what my company does with bonuses. Like I said, I'm not a lawyer. I'm probably way off. Lol. Maybe not literally a buy out, per se.
The contracts are not allowed to force them to any specific school. They also can’t be based on playing time or performance. You are an employee of the company you work for. The athletes are not employees of the school. Not yet, anyway.

Think we would have to make it a priority to bring back Clayton, Condo, Haugh, Handlogten, Richards, Kugel and even Aberdeen. That’s 6-7 of our 9 rotation players. Aside from maybe Kugel, can we see anyone else leaving?
