Agreed, although it insults my intelligence to call it NIL when it is nothing more than a dirty, sleazy inducement to play for team X. What we are seeing is NOT what the Supreme Court ruled on.
Willful ignorance. Like how Kirby managed to keep a couple of high round running backs to stay for a senior season a year or two after he got to Georgia. As if they bypassed all that money just to come back and win a title and go to school... Not groundbreaking but I have said for years now that Kirby brought everything he witnessed from Alabama to Georgia. Maybe that's what maclwein was frustrated about when he was here at Florida. Knowing how Saban did it and knowing we were still using old school tactics of a little bag money here and there while Alabama was adding waterfalls to their lockeroom and relocating families and setting them up with cars and jobs... Remember, muschamp was with Saban at lsu. I don't think he was with Saban at Alabama to bring that sort of thing to Florida. Not that we didn't buy some recruits, you had to but I don't believe for a second that our " recruiting methods" were institutionalized like bamas.
The difference is that one has been in college for a while and has proven his value on the field. The other just arrived 7 weeks ago and hasn’t even taken a snap in practice. It seems I’m in the minority. But it rubs me the wrong way.
Are you trying to act like it’s a good thing that college kids can buy houses before ever playing a down, regardless of intent? Obviously this is how NIL money should be spent- instead of stupid crap, but I don’t believe for a second that you think they should make so much money they can buy a house before ever even playing a down. we went from “college kids should be able to be in commercials and make money from their likeness in video games” to buy a house before you ever touch the field pretty quick eh?
And tell us about how freshman from other SEC schools (especially UGA) got brand new cars and other things starting in the '90's while our best players (All Americans in some cases) were riding scooters.
Doesn’t really matter what any of us think. It’s happening with or without us. Get onboard, or get left behind.
Huh? I'm saying read the room. Im totally against pay for play. NIL in its "intended" form is the right thing but the powers that be always knew the boosters would use it as a loophole to exploit. Not that they weren't doing it already. But posting "I'm disgusted with this" when a kid posts a video surprising his mother with a house can and was used to paint florida fans in a negative light. If this is the new way then yes, mom getting a house Is better than a horse faced jackass that leveraged a disingenuous commitment to florida in order to get an offer to georgia bragging about recieving a Lamborghini with his NIL. It is what it is
I get what you’re saying. I’m just saying that all of it sucks. A guy who just graduated, earlier than most of us did, goes out and buys house… A HOUSE! Apparently a nice one, and …before earning it. The big guy better be able to ball on Saturdays then. At least Beck can say I grinded for 3 years and waited my turn. And when my # was called, I produced.
We don’t really have any idea what the deal is on this house, do we? It seems like most are assuming that the kid paid cash for it and is just rolling in the dough. They still have zero down first time home buyer programs. They offer freakin 50 year mortgages now too. I bought my first house when I was not much older than him. I always thought renting was just pissing money away, and you could spend the same amount per month to own.
I know what you mean with regard to proven comparisons... I should have made a freshman to freshman caparison. But the point I was making was that a freshman buying his mother a house is the true measure of a man and that makes him a good person in my eyes... unlike buying something like an expensive car to drive around in... selfish. Robinson gifted his mother a house... winner. Most others like Beck will buy themselves stuff, which is their right, but it's still more selfish...
