Razor wire and shipping containers seem to help also!!!! As the Texas crossing have slowed dramatically, no wall, no attempt to curb, Arizona and California see massive increases. Makes you go Hmmmmmmm..

I think whether something "works" should be evaluated in terms of the intent, expectations, and results relative to the costs. Barriers/walls definitely work IMO to the extent that they slow people down and make passing more difficult. They may even deter some folks from even trying in a similar way that locking our car doors will deter some who might want to take our stuff.

People have also invoked the residential analogy. Many people who own homes still have guard dogs and guns since we know that walls can only do so much. That's particularly true depending upon the construction of the wall, its condition, and other factors. I'd be interested to read discussion regarding how effective the new portions of wall that Trump had built have fared, but at the very least, I don't see it as some sort of panacea and that funding has to be weighed against other enforcement options. Trump recently suggested that Biden could put an end to the border crisis tomorrow, so even he obviously believes there are other things they can be done without any additional barriers being constructed.

I am personally not opposed to all walls by any means, but I think we need comprehensive reform and need to address the reason we've had such an uptick in migrants seeking asylum.

You are spot on!!! The wall is merely a deterrent that will help "funnel" the crossings to controlled crossings, but work visas, the asylum process and immigration in general needs and overhaul!!

Walls work as a defensible position, if patrolled/manned properly. And like I said in the previous post, a 8.5 mile wall could be manned 24/7 effectively with a patrol of about 300 persons. A 2000 mile wall? Much different story.

An unmanned wall is all but useless. The Trump wall, in completed areas, were breached 11 times a day in 2022. That is the definition of useless. It stops nobody, and slows nobody down, if and when it is breached, which it is, and often. Now, if there were people patrolling, different story. But if 300 people could patrol a 8.5 mile wall effectively, then it would take about 70,000, or 3.5X the current Border Patrol roster to effectively man a 2000 mile wall!

There's BIG and I mean BIG money in the border crossing industry. Just like foreign wars, drugs (both pharmaceutical and illicit), porn, and college football. Nobody is going to do anything to stop these industries.

You are correct in that walls are useless if you just allow any who cross to just come on in. If you send them back, then maybe it might be more effective. Nearly 90% of asylum cases are declined so why not send them back? The humanitarian issue in Mexico will go away once they find out that can't just come in and claim asylum and be given food, shelter and clothing and a court date up to 5 years from now. What is to slow anyone one down now? Why not come in, get all the freebees, and worry about asylum 5 years from now? Is that good policy in your open border mind?

Do you know how desperate one needs to be to leave their home country, walk hundreds, if not thousands of miles, to try and eek out a new life in a new country? You really think anything we do will curb this desperation and stop the flow of immigrants coming here? Please, tell me in the history of this country, what have we done that's actually been effective at curbing the flow of undocumented immigrants coming here? Here's a hint. Since 1999, two things have worked. A major recession and COVID.

Notice a spike starting in 2018 and continuing in 2019? Who was POTUS back then? Please remind me. The same guy who dropped legal immigration significantly, and then ended aid payments to the Northern Triangle countries in C. America and Venezuela. Also notice the huge spike in non-Mexicans during this time? Hmm. I wonder if they are connected?!?

Strange that they decided to build 8 walls (based on that video) and then man those walls if a single wall was that effective. Do you think we should build 8 walls on the Southern Border?

LOL. Simple solution is to make anyone requesting asylum to wait in Mexico. That alone would solve a lot of issues. Then yes build a wall that also has cameras, video and incorporates AI to monitor any attempted crossings. And yes, increase the number of Border Patrol agents to properly man the southern border. You keep thinking that it's useless to build a wall while you sit in your home with walls lol. Also, you should tell all the banks that walls are useless. I'm sure they will listen to your brilliant logic.

Ain't that the truth! posters like yourself, as well as Mike Johnson and his House colleagues are proof of that. Johnson: "We ain't giving' Ukraine no money till we gots a border bill!" Senate: "Here's a bipartisan one." Johnson: "We don't like that one." Hmmm? I wonder why the House GOP took that position? Could it happen to do with the upcoming election and fear of the Orange Man?

Biden didn't need this funding for Ukraine to do something about the border. Some people are so partisan they don't even realize how ridiculous they sound. Trump is an idiot and if the bill was just for funding the southern border I'd be in favor of it. It's not a great bill but it is better than the status quo of doing nothing. But make no mistake, Biden could fix this issue but doesn't want to. The rest is you and the lefties playing gotcha politics.

A safe haven for asylum seekers is a good humanitarian policy, opposed, not surprisingly, by the CINOS on the right. The only thing keeping it from working as envisioned is lack of a sufficient number of immigration judges. I'm not sure why we don't have enough. In any event, the number of illegals in America's is, as percentage of our population, small. Moreover, most are need by our economy. I'd rather have many of these illegals here contributing than the MAGA cultists.

I don't hold Biden blamtelss, but I do find it rich that you of all people would accuse anyone of being partisan without first acknowledging it in yourself.

Lol! So is that a yes or no on 8 walls? Are we also going to try a whole country roof to emulate a house? Also, why do you need AI to identify people crossing the border? You think a computer needs an adaptive program to figure out what people look like or something?

We don't need additional funding, but you are proposing high tech solutions like cameras and drones, and increasing the number of agents on the border. Which all requires money. How is Biden, or anyone, supposed to pay for this additional security if Congress doesn't pass a bill?

And the walls in your house are so effective, I'm sure you don't have dog, gun, alarm system, or anything else to protect you. All you need are walls, am I right? Just like that wall kept out Hamas...oops.

Sure, I'm partisan to the middle. There, you got me. I've neither voted D or R in the last 2 elections and I'll most likely be voting 3rd party again. Guess that blows up your whole "partisan" angle. Good one...

Apparently there was one businessman who had no problem employing undocumented workers.
Report: Trump Happily Employing Undocumented Workers Amid ICE Raids
This Is How Trump Relies on Undocumented Labor for His Resorts
They were all released shortly after the story broke but only as the result of unfavorable publicity. Before one or members of the Cult of the Donald replies with the response that Trump didn't actually make the hiring decisions that resulted in their employment if he did make it clear that the employment of illegal aliens was unacceptable within the Trump organization and mandated the use of the E-Verify system they never would have been hired in the first place.

You do know that north of 75-80% of asylum seekers are denied, don't you? Economy bad where I live does not qualify you for asylum.
