Canadian family move to “paradise” of Russia to escape LGBTQ+, immediately regret it

I know nothing about them but don't underestimate how some get drawn into misguided information (to put it mildly) and ONLY listen to that information as the foundation for their reality. Just think of the conspiracy theories we've heard. I know this riles some up but I keep thinking back a few years ago, per nurses and docs reporting of some individuals in icu with Covid pleading for the vax, but it was too late at that point. That is just so sad.

Agree - very suspicious and confusing. Could this happen to someone who up and moved to Russia? Sure, it probably could but still hard to believe someone would just move their whole family like that and apparently close all of their old bank accounts before the new ones were established and working.

 

Surmise: some smart Americans have moved to Russia and some dumb Americans have moved to Russia.

Side: I have good friends who moved to China several years ago and they are still loving it.

Some additional articles not necessary on this family but generally relating to conservatives and Russia. Seems believable to me that there are some folks in the West trying their hand there. Be interesting to see if there are more cases after Tucker's glowing reviews.

As the story explains, Russian officials were more than happy to help them move and put their money into a Russian bank. Once they arrived, the funds were frozen and all their helpful Russian handlers were nowhere to be found.

 

In the fog of a war and sanctions, no less. Seems completely believable.

Buy a newer house built to hurricane codes and rates aren’t bad.
Mine is now 1/2 what it was compared to the house I lost in a fire with better coverage.

 

Dailykos is generally a left wing rag. About the only thing they’ve done well that I’ve seen is their Ukraine war coverage - the daily updates are quite good and usually well sourced. The politics stuff? Eeeeeesh. Wouldn’t trust it without verifying.

 

So are you saying the topic of this thread didn’t actually happen? Instead of just blasting a source, why don’t you link a better source that has what you believe to be a more accurate depiction of the situation?

 

Why did they go to Russia? They could have just gone to Hungary, and had authoritarianism lite, with all the anti woke and anti LGBTQ bells and whistles.
