Eli Gold who returned to part time duty after missing 2022 to battle cancer says he is very healthy and did NOT want to part ways. Has no plans to retire. He is a legendary SEC voice. Eli Gold ‘not retiring,’ speaks out after Alabama opts to not retain broadcast legend
You would think they would want to keep some continuity wherever they could find it. Feel bad for the guy. I mean great career and he was blessed but fight and make it through cancer to find out “nahh, we’re good, thanks for the 34 years”. Seems strange.
Are we seriously talking about a radio guy from a turd town , and a horsecrap college? Come on!! Geeze ! Legendary.. lol
I could not listen to that dude all game long... their "legend"... maybe, but in the grand scheme of past announcers... from all sports in college? Not much there.
I tried listening to him a couple of times and wasn’t impressed. He knew all about his team and virtually nothing about the other team. His calls were always something along the lines of “the receiver” or “the lineman” because he couldn’t be bothered to figure out what the name of an opposing player was. I get that every broadcaster is going to lean toward their team but to me that’s disrespectful and unprofessional, you never heard Mick Huber do that. I always thought he was really poor on NASCAR broadcasts as well, no knowledge of the sport. As far as I am concerned I hope he enjoys retirement.
Cmon guys. 35 years at the winningest program in the country. Arguably him and Mick are the two most recognized SEC voices to cover that entire stretch. 40 years covering NASCAR (which I dont watch actually) 20 years running currently, doing 1 NFL radio game a week for Sports USA. And former play by play for the Blues and Preds in the NHL. (Hockey being arguably the fastest game to call play by play on radio for) Guy is a legend.
Tilly what percentage of fans across the SEC KNEW WHO Eli is ? Even less with Hubert , whom I thought was overrated. But anyone following David Steele was gonna be tough
Has cancer but it's in remission and Eli says he's fine and feels good. As mentioned - more to this story?
And now he feels sad that he's being put out to pasture... News Flash: Mr. Gold... that happens to many people in your profession. Your game calling days are over at Bama.
