The Republican majority on the North Carolina Supreme Court aren't requiring their Republican colleague to recuse himself despite the fact that his own father is a party to a lawsuit before the court. The lawsuit involves school funding, and the Phil Berger Jr.'s (Republican member of the NC Supreme Court) father, Phil Berger Sr., intervened in the lawsuit to defend the Legislature's decision not to properly fund the schools (allegedly).

Unsurprisingly, the plaintiffs asked Phil Berger Jr. to recuse himself. You can't expect a judge to fairly consider a case where his father is one of the parties and arguing one side of the case. Berger Jr. refused to recuse himself. And rather than do the right thing, the Republican majority took his side. Utterly corrupt.
Editorial: State court's integrity diminished by Justice Berger Jr.'s refusal to recuse in Leandro case

You might think I'm overstating things. So here's a screenshot of the case caption:

Republicans…Particularly the populist Trumpists, have convinced themselves that the only way to save America is by destroying it.
It’s one of the more bizarre things I’ve seen in my lifetime.

Republicans? You should look at the sordid history of this great state. Start with Jim Hunt. He was governor when I moved here in the 1990's.

Plenty of corruption to go around here.

I’m not talking about corruption. I’m talking about the idea that anything which furthers the conservative agenda against the liberals, regardless of its legality, is not only tolerated. But cheered. It’s not some old guys in a back room somewhere making secret plans, it’s literally the stated agenda of much of the party.

be as blind as you want to be to it, but every time the orange one says something completely contradictory to democracy he is cheered wildly.
When people want to overturn elections based on fraudulent claims, they are cheered on.
When they want to delegitimize the FBI, federal courts, the CIA, they are cheered on.
When Trump says openly that he wants to lock up his political opponents he is cheered on.
When Texas says they simply won’t comply with federal orders on immigration or court rulings, no one of consequence pushes back.
When republicans in almost every state pass laws to restrict voting rather than expand it, and give themselves power to effectively overturn elections they get praised as protecting us against some nonexistent threat.
And when Trump lost, his minions literally went to DC to try and physically stop a lawful transfer of power. And now most of the Republican candidates want to pardon them.

Play your whataboutism all you want on this, but there is zero excusing or defending the group think from the right right now. And to even deny it’s real is to to be complicit.

How did we get to Trump?
This is about a judge here in NC.
    I was referring to that.

We got her because I said it was the stated agenda of the party, and you told me I was wrong. this bleeds down from the top of the national party and has become endemic locally.
NC is a symptom of a much larger problem.

Ok. We may agree then. It's why I left the party. I am just saying (small picture) that most Republicans dont want corrupt judges.

Their love for Trump stupifies me.
