I don't know that there is any such provision in the Bylaws. I do know that they are able to contribute excess revenues back to the parent entity and have done so. I would assume the reverse would also be possible, but have not heard of this ever occurring.

 

I totally agree on the filth that has always been college football. It’s always been filthy and I find it strange that people have a problem with the money being above board. I have a problem with the portal every year and believe it’s the worst model in all of sports. Leon Orr said every player on our team was getting paid and I’ve believed that long before he said it. I’d just prefer a level playing field like the nfl. Deflate a ball or something is the biggest advantage you’re going to get unless the refs intentionally screw the saints out of a Super Bowl. NFL is probably corrupt as no one in the world believes that wasn’t clear as day pass interference.

 

And they can make any rules they want in that regard I guess.

 

The schools can make up rules out of thin air as that’s what they’ve always done. Courts have intervened a few times when the rules were basically deemed unconstitutional.

Yep, age discrimination is okay... 18 year olds can't drink and that's the law too.

But I would like to see the XFL let these young men play football.

 

I seem to remember reading somewhere (sometime back FWIW) that it was 10% of revenue. Forget if that was net or gross.

 

That would require some kind of player organization to collectively bargain/negotiate. I have no idea how the Hell that would be or could be done.

 

Yeah, mention that to the SCOTUS... Lol. I'm sure they will take it under consideration for anyone that challenges amateurism in college sports.

In what way is the UAA separate from the university?

 

I think we're in a far more litigious atmosphere at the moment than at any other time. They can try, but I imagine it will get shot down rather quickly if it restricts player movement/earning potential.

 

I've been advocating for an NFL minor league for decades, primarily for this reason. There needs to be a pro option for football just like all the other sports. If something like this had been in place we may have avoided this NIL/Transfer Portal crap. But instead we let the free riders (NFL) keep their free ride.

 

I see no problem with the NIL... as it's implemented. I do see people complaining about it. It is what it is and in it's current form you cannot prevent a kid from making money on their own Name Likeness and Image.

I hated the ruling in the first place, because I knew ahead of time what would happen. So I am not shocked... and I have moved on from complaining about the NIL. It's exactly what I thought it would be, sucky. And I still DO NOT like it, but I have no say so... so I stopped wasting my time trying to change it. The sooner you do the better off you will be too, becasue the alternative, as in making these kids employees of the university in any which way, is THE PANDORA'S BOX THAT SHOULD NEVER BE OPENED.

Do yourself a favor and forget about it.

 

Per Crusher, they're sort of a sub contractor. Just think of UAA as a self-funding Athletic Department. Either that or the collective is going to be writing the checks so it makes sense for them to be the official employer. Look, if it's pro, might as well spin it off from the University at large. And they're paying them anyway. That's why it's a "collective", so they can dole it out themselves instead of the boosters doing it individually (and covertly).

Good for him. I would have done the same thing if I had the chance back in the day.

But you see how many teams like UGA have been cheating, and now with the NIL their efforts to cheat have paid off... they're good at hiding the cheat amongst the seemingly legitimate NIL cash.

Screw Georgia, too.

 

If these student athletes could be employees of the schools I think they would have mentioned that little detail. don't you? I'm glad the NIL is set the way it is, and I don't think it needs fixing. But the transfer portal is broken and that does indeed need to be fixed.

Yeah, it's not a federal issue... not in their purview.

 

Both UF and UAA can fund raise although if partially compensated (tickets) the fair market value of those must be removed from the charitable part. I don't know the genesis of why the UAA needed to exist, but if I had to guess it came to pass when the building of a plethora of new sports facilities and high compensation for coaches occurred. I think that UF didn't want those items on the State "books." For some reason, it didn't bother FSU in the least and Bobby Bowden was the top paid employee in the State for many years.

 

Its a different corporate entity, but basically it is a UF entity.
