CMW was a master at devising inbounds plays around the skills of individual players. I was missing that, but over the last 4 or 5 games, CTG has had some great inbounds plays installed as well, most of them involving Riley Kugel. So, a double benefit: an easy bucket that helps Riley get going.
I was going back to Nodm Sloan, who , btw, was UFs first full time BB coach. Before that, an assistant FB coach coached BB.
Well, yeah, but I don't think any of us are expecting to win that It's hard to believe we once had a football assistant as head basketball coach but it's true. UF really didn't care about basketball for a long time.
Its almost like having 4 Colin Castletons on the team. Also, I've seen nothing that makes me think CTG isn't going to be a fantastic coach in the SEC.
I have a UGA friend who questioned me about Mike White and why he would leave Florida. I told my friend that MW is a class act and a guy I really wanted to be successful. But who had basically run out of support. Told him that MW will be an improvement for them but that you will become irrationally annoyed about 10 minutes scoring droughts in the second half and starting the half court offense with 10 seconds left so that one guard or another would have to jack up a 3. At some point this year, he texted me "I see what you mean about MW."
I think what gets overlooked is that Golden completely overturned the roster in the offseason. We will, for example, go into Tuesday's game against Bama with only one holdover starter from last year's blowout. There were injuries and suspensions and true freshman finding themselves while others needed to adjust to new roles. Consequently, nobody should have been surprised that there were going many growing pains early and losing close games during our non SEC schedule was a part of that. This year's roster has grown to be very impressive from Pullin as a pure point and Clayton playing like the veteran guard he is to a frontcourt that really crashes the offensive glass. Next year, it won't be easy to replace Pullin as a pure pg and Samuel inside. I still see a team learning to win with plenty of areas still needing shoring up. It appears to be a team that learns and improves. If Bama on the road proves to be too much it will be interesting to see what the rematch in Gainesville looks like.
What I like about Golden now is that he is winning! I had my doubts early. I also had doubts about Billy D but he proved me wrong. So hopefully so does Golden.
Hi praise indeed coming from Mizzou Gator. Me, I'm just really happy and proud this club has won 7 orf the last 8 in SEC play. Interestingly if UF can close out by winning 5 or 6 it is not beyond the imagination UF could secure the SEC regular season title. A stretch...? Absolutely, but 8 - 4 is a long way from 1 - 3. Yes, Bama twice and S Carolina once, is tough, in fact all of them will be tough, even Vandy IMO, especially the last game in Nashville. I'm just enjoying the ride, and I find this group of young men really enjoyable to watch. When was the last time UF had a "4 and 4" rotation this good? Love the rebounding, when was the last time UF was this good on the boards? We have 4 shooters, Kugel, Richard, Clayton and Pullen can knock em down. (Well Kugel as in more recently) Just excited UF is competing for SEC and tourney honors and not staring an NIT in the face again.
