Judge orders Trump to pay nearly $355 million in civil fraud trial

Nice of you to hope and cheer, but you didn’t answer why you would entrust our Nation’s treasure with a proven fraudster (not just this case, but a legion of cases, including stealing from charities ).

 

Madoff was smart, too. Would you want him handling our Country’s money?

 

This is factually wrong. Even if he wins, he cannot just snap his fingers and make a State judgment disappear. His federal power does not translate to power over each State’s judicial system on matters that are not federal.

 

I believe he also has the ability to pledge title to his properties assuming that the judge and prosecution agree to it. I would think he would have to provide much more than $400M though as the properties would have to be liquidated at firesale prices.

 

Another Red wave? Last one was truly terrifying. In fact.. I am trying to think of a red election win since 2016.

 

It could be more like the 2020 election night in which the losing candidate claimed that he won the election and that it was stolen from his through fraud. In fact even though he won the Electoral College and it didn't make any real difference in the end the candidate that lost the popular vote by an almost 3 million vote margin claimed that he would have won the popular vote too were it not for massive voter fraud including voting by illegal aliens.

I would also add that you may be counting your proverbial chickens before they hatch. Most of the polls are within the margin of the error and going back several elections Democratic candidates have over performed the polls the most recent example being the special election for the House seat in the NY 3rd in which the most recent poll had the Democrat ahead by a margin of one percent and in the end he won by an 8 percent margin and then there was the 2022 Michigan gubernatorial election in which Gretchen Whitmer the incumbent Democrat was ahead of Tudor Dixon the election denying Trumper by a margin of two percent in poll taken immediately prior to the election. Not only was Whitmer reelected by a margin of 10 percent, Michigan ended up with Democratic majorities in both houses of the state legislature for the first time in decades. Adam Laxalt another Trump was ahead in a number of polls in Nevada and ended up losing the Senate election and although he was reelected Ron Johnson won by a margin of around one percent although the polls in Wisconsin had him ahead by four percent and speaking of Wisconsin in a an election for State's Supreme Court last year the progressive candidate beat the conservative by a margin of 10 percent although the polls had the candidates within the margin of error.

 

And this .... from a guy who thinks DT should never be allowed to hold office again.

"The New York State laws used to go after Trump have NEVER been used in this way, historically, and while Trump may owe some back state taxes, if Judge Engoron is right, not a single bank claimed that it had been defrauded by Trump in the loans it had made to him. This is truly a victimless crime.

The bottom line is that a never before used New York State penalty has been twisted into a tool for a grossly excessive fine and more seriously the completely inappropriate appointment of Judge Jones as an "independent monitor" who can micromanage the Trump business, which she is not competent to do, and to even order the dissolution of the Trump Business in New York State. This outcome was pursued by Letitia James, a politically ambition Democrat, who is the Attorney General of New York State, and who hopes to win a future Democratic primary for Governor of or Senator from New York State.

Ms. James and Judge Engeron have essentially turned a vaguely worded New York State law into a modern day Bill of Attainder targeted at Donald Trump both for political gain and because they despise his political views and desperately want to call his truthfulness into question as he runs for President of the United States inn 2024. In doing this, the have violated Trump's First Amendment right to freedom of speech and of the press; his Fifth Amendment right not to be deprived of liberty or property without due process of law; his Fifth Amendment right not to have property taken away from him except for a pubic use with just compensation being paid; his Eighth Amendment right not to be made to pay an excessive fine; his Article IV, Section 2 right as a citizen of Florida to do make and enforce contracts in New York on the same terms as are other New Yorkers; and his Fourteenth Amendment right to be free to pursue an occupation without unnecessary and burdensome regulation."

 

It's that's all true then it may have behooved Trump to hire competent legal counsel. He has more money than 99.9% of defendants to hire attorneys to make these kinds of arguments but instead he hired the prettiest one he could find.

 

Two of those may apply, and he may be correct that the law has never been used in this fashion, but he’s skipping over so many elements of NY law that it is hard to take him seriously.

We constantly hear, "no president has ever been treated this way." Well, no president ever tried to stay in office after losing an election so yes, his treatment will be unique.

 

The beauty of capitalism: competition.

 

I hate that that attitude is so common in sports, too. More important than your side winning is seeing the other side lose.

So we actually have text messages from Wade's attorney between Willis and Wade in 2021 that clearly show a "romantic relationship" existed at that time, contrary to Willis' testimony. The fight now is if the revelation of these texts breaches Wade's attorney-client privilege. But she clearly lied under Oath. Sound like she gone.

So keeping two sets of books makes him smart? I just don’t know how to respond to this. Setting up to commit fraud makes you smart?

 

He's $4 billion richer yet he is still hitting up his supporters to pay his legal fees and the judgments against him. Assuming that the number is accurate what Trump is really doing is hitting up his working class supporters so that he can avoid liquidating his real estate assets.

 

Really sad that peeps who are probably living paycheck to paycheck are sending this guy any of their money. P.T. Barnum was correct.

 

As a leader, he is setting the example and this is the message. Breaking the law is OK. Imagine the state of the country if everyone followed his lead and didn't pay taxes.
