We actually won a quad meet at Missouri and got credit for 3 wins Friday night. Posted their best team score of the year. Big meet vs. LSU this Friday. LSU has scored better than us this year, so Gators have to be at their best to win this meet.

Week 7 NQS Top 16 Rankings

    Standings (roadtonationals.com)

    2 LSU 197.685 197.696 198.475
    3 California 197.645 197.575 197.950
    4 Kentucky 197.560 197.504 197.950
    5 Utah 197.550 197.500 197.775
    6 Florida 197.435 197.517 197.925
    7 Michigan 197.390 197.221 197.725
    8 Michigan State 197.325 197.282 198.050
    9 Alabama 197.300 197.300 197.625
    10 Denver 197.260 197.314 198.000
    11 UCLA 197.175 197.214 198.075
    12 Missouri 197.100 197.064 197.475
    13 Auburn 196.965 197.082 197.725
    14 Ohio State 196.955 197.021 197.350
    15 Arkansas 196.950 196.904 197.525
    16 Minnesota 196.910 196.911 197.525

Keep in mind that UF started the season in week 2. All teams on the list except UF have completed 7 meets. Consequently, the other teams have had their highest score dropped and their lowest score dropped with an average of their remaining 5 scores.

UF won't get the opportunity to drop its lowest score until after the LSU meet. Hopefully, the Gators will get to drop its first meet low of 197.100 with a much higher score, say 198 if the season trend to improve every week continues. Should that happen, UF would rise into the top 4 with a shot at 3. After week 8, teams ranked above UF are in play to pass in the NQS except Oklahoma and LSU, key is continued UF improvement. Notice UF's season average is higher than Kentucky and Utah.

The NQS (National Qualifying Score) is used to determine seeding for the NCAA Regionals. The top 36 teams make it into the tournament with 8 teams at each regional. The 2 top scoring teams in each regional advance to nationals to determine team and individual national championships.

The four regional sites for 2024:

So wins and losses really don’t mean anything. How can we have sports with that kind of subjective analysis?
I want a winner and a loser dang it. Are you gonna ban me for questioning?

College Gym News - The Dismount Week 7:

The Dismount: Week 7 - College Gym News

CGN has my complaint too. The Oklahoma/California/Arkansas/Washington meet should have been streamed by someone. Getting meet scores is no substitute for the eye test.

After having watched Cal the week before, I'm not surprised the sooners spanked the golden bears. Cal has gotten the benefit of some silly judging this season and does not pass my eye test for their scores or ranking. I'm glad to see LSU move past Cal into the 2 spot. It won't be a surprise when UF passes them as well.

Wins and losses determine the conference championships, but it's the points total formula that decides national rankings and seeding.

There are winner and losers. It's just that scores and continued improvement throughout the season can trump won/loss record. Don't think it won't happen in a 12-team football playoff in 2024. It happens in basketball and baseball too. You have winners and losers with a crowned national champion.

Try becoming SEC Gymnastics Champion without the won/loss record.

Just like other sports, gymnastics crowns a national champion at the end of the 36-team post season. There are always some upsets at various levels of the rankings. Some of the best teams have bombed out in the regional round. The last from the SEC that comes to mind was LSU two years ago. In the first year of this championship format, UF was highly ranked, but 2 fell off the beam so the Gators didn't advance out of regionals.

As I mentioned in my other post to you, you can learn a lot about college team gymnastics by taking an hour to read this thread.

Insert football and the selection committee as compared to gymnastics and the judges and you have the same thing, basketball and baseball too.

This is meant in the nicest way I can.
Other posters have taken their time to research and post information.
To me, our duty is to use our time to read those posts instead of wanting posters to answer questions that they have already answered.
    JMHO.

What I don't know which is a lot about the mechanics of performing, I'm not afraid to look up. It's all part of enjoying the sport to me.

In other sports, we constantly learn and talk about other programs in those sports. The more you know, the more you enjoy. It's just not possible to enjoy a sport you put zero time and effort into.
