I never wouldve thought that would be possible but here we are. I honestly thought he would be 2-2 etc. Im not beating my chest to say I told you so because I honestly have much respect for Mike White the person. It just didnt work out here in Gainesville for Mike White the coach. With that said, man what a difference Golden is. He loves offense and Florida fans do too. That is going to give him a longer leash outside of just winning games. He also has a LOT of energy. I think we need to appreciate what we have in Golden because you can see how elite he can be if he hits his ceiling here at UF. Fingers cross that he does just that.
Mike White is at the perfect school for himself. He recruits well, will pull one or two upsets a season, and he’ll be in the running to make the NCAA tournament most seasons. He’s a below average coach who recruits better than he can develop or in game coach. UGA doesn’t care about basketball, he’s a great fit for that redneck school because they don’t actually care about the sport.
To be fair, UF is just a better team/program than UGA. I don't think it's necessarily an indictment or proves anything about Mike White. That said... we will rally around Todd Golden and play good football. We got ourselves a great coach.
I refrained from adding to the comments about Mike White in the other threads because I didn't want to pile on and I wanted to try to focus on golden however I can't say I'm not a lot less sympathetic to him regardless of how much I like him as a person now that he is at Georgia. I don't know the how and why he ended up at that program and it may have everything to do with his family, climate, personal issues etc but the petty fan in me believes there could have been some calculated measure regarding their status as our bitter rival. I always rooted for him and while I never had any ill will towards him especially as a long time supporter, seeing him make the same mistakes over and over was and is beyond frustrating.
Oh I agree. I think it was time for change. I just think that the idea he was given too short of a leash is off and that he hopefully understands that. That said i know nothing of how things transpired behind closed doors and i saw the vitriol by some fans for the last few years. It's his life and his prerogative I just wished he'd have ended up at any number of other places so that I could root for him.
I don’t think the leash was short. He was our Mark Richt, but I feel like UGA had better success with Richt.
Not surprising. Not a knock against White either. He took over a bad team. He’s done a decent job, although this years team is in danger of going down the tubes after looking in solid shape a few weeks ago. Conversely Florida was a bit vulnerable our first meeting, though I think this team is how playing how the “eyeball test” might have had is early in the season. If the schedule were reversed and we played UGA on the road first when we still were building confidence, maybe we lose the road game at that point on the schedule. Instead we survived at home and UGA hosted us while we are hot and they are struggling. Them’s the breaks…
2015-2022 is enough time imo. We will see what Golden does to close this year out and moving forward. Remember, White took us to an elite 8 his second year.
Still have to wonder how things would have turned out if Keyonte would have played.......sometimes just one player makes all the difference in the world.........
Why are you surprised? White is a mediocre at best coach who is now at a mediocre program. He is also a Dawg. I hope they lose every game. If he went to some directional school like Mac I’d be fine rooting for him, but he went to UGA. I hope they fail in every possible way.
