Don't care that he left. I say again any coach or player on any team at any time is nothing more than a paid mercenary. It is what the game has turned into.

Mercenary infers that THE reason for being at any place and doing your craft is strictly a money making venture. And then if money making is your the only mantra, the place that makes you the most money wins. We lost the bidding war under what I said to BC?

Methinks "mercenary" is a bit too strong in this instance.

Reading these three pages is quite depressing. Obviously, no judgement on the posters, but rather the sad reality of it all. Geeze...

I just hope this team can win a few of the games they shouldn't, create some positive mojo so we can get more premier kids. Looking back after next year, I hope that some of the good that happened is because Napier decided to use Lagway as a special weapon.

My recollection of coaches in the past that failed (their critical flaws) is they wanted to do it their way, they were stubborn to the end and it ultimately cost them their jobs. I could be wrong, but somehow that sticks in my head.

Didn't he have an ACC schedule his first two years as well?

Already is the only Gator HBC to have losing seasons in his first 2 seasons.

Yep, tge holes would have quite a few more losses tge last few years with an sec schedule but I wouldn’t advise firing Norvell

Given a typical SEC schedule (not our 2024 schedule), it wouldn't have mattered much.

I've heard this All Cupcake Conference stuff since FSU joined them in 1992. If they built their enormous record on cupcakes, SOS and a top bowl opponent would have exposed them, but their record against top teams were better than ours.

I’d say Georgia “exposed” them this year.

To a large degree, they did. But even the most rabid Nole hater would concede they were a shell of their original team. They didn't care and chose to be a sacrificial lamb. After Travis went down, they weren't nearly the team they were, but they still had a great defense. After the so-called snub, most of the stars deserted FSU like rats on a sinking ship...

No doubt Bowden had loaded talent and could coach but they only lost a handful of games in the acc for years. A weak schedule definitely was part of that.

From 1990-2001, FSU lost two regular season conference games, plus six to Miami, who we didn't play. From 1990-2001, Florida lost t14 such games, but being that we were a worse team than FSU, I would say they would have lost five games in the SEC if they had our schedule. When adding Miami, their schedule really wasn't much easier than ours. Yes, we had the SEC championship game while they didn't have one, but they had to play Miami and Florida OOC, while we generally only had the Noles...

Tennessee was pretty damn good back then if you can remember back there, and just because we beat Georgia almost every year doesn’t mean they weren’t regularly winning 10 games

Your post ignores the difference between playing multiple tough games every season, and only playing 2.

You don't remember the Ray Goff era? Leghumpers sure do. Georgia won 10 games twice in the SOS Era, and we split with them 1-1. Tennessee was a very good team, and we were 8-4 against the Vols, but Miami went 115-28 from 1990 to 2001, nearly as great as we were.

We averaged 6-7 opponents per year without winning records or G5 except for 2000, and had our share of cupcakes like Vandy, Kentucky, South Carolina, LSU, etc. Half our opponents were either G5/FCS or teams without winning records. They weren't ALL Tennessee and Alabama. There's no question their conference schedule was easier, plus they didn't have a conference championship game, but their OOC record, including bowls, was outstanding against top teams.

    Don't buy into the myth...
