In a disappointing night I was very impressed with Mikey. Can is a gamer that clearly is a threat due to his speed.
Earl sits and new Earl is #35 Jr RHP Mettert Men on 1B & 2B / 2 outs B/Kc - Heyman grounds out to short Final St. John’s 9-5
We have hitting and when it comes to pitching I trust Sully! First game - you never know. St Johns played solid baseball.
Not an excuse and not why we lost but sometimes a pitch that was clearly outside was a strike and then a nearly identical pitch was a ball. That was true for both teams. I want a home plate blue that calls a consistent game.
Thank you P. I. F. Ouch for Ty. Hope he gets back quickly. Kinda know the situation myself. Last scrimmage game in High School, I was doing a sacrifice bunt and caught a wayyyyy inside fastball on my right thumb. Broke it in three places, (hairline fracture). GO GATORS!!!!
He was fielding during scrimmages and doing all his fielding work during practice after two or three days, but I did not see him take any more bp other than to bunt. I would guess we’ll see him in another week or two. He missed all of fall and the majority of spring, but I still expect for him to get an opportunity. A couple of freshmen could push for outfield pt as well.
Great! Hope to see him soon. 5 bombs in the CWS last year! Miss Langfords stick in the lineup but Ty could (maybe) have a few bombs left for this year. GO GATORS!!!!
Oof, that was not what we expected by far. What a bad night to lay an egg from Cade Fisher. That game brought more questions and few answers. Sure it's baseball and you can have games like that and one game does not make a season. Props to the SJU coach for loading up on RHH, staying with his starting pitcher, going to the LHP when Robertson came up, and SJU for playing a clean game. (Other than the tough throw to first that pulled the first baseman off the bag and gave Heyman a gift single.) I have to believe Sully will give Fisher a few more starts to see if he comes around before we head to Miami. Fisher has been very good in scrimmages for several weeks. I can only think the pressure of opening day and the big crowd got to him tonight. On a positive, Slater and Jameson pitched well tonight and gave us something to work with. We didn't use Neely so hopefully we get the chance, rain pending. Robertson, Cags, Shelton, and Thomas all had two hits so they were seeing the ball good. Heyman was good on every throw down I saw him make.
Did not see this coming on opening night, against St. John's. Fisher has pitched well in scrimmages but there is always the added pressure of being the "Friday Night Guy".... opening night pressure seemed to get to him. Falling behind 7-0 not good and Gators unable to crank up the big comeback inning that we were all awaiting. Not the best way to start the season but it's only one game.
Didn’t Ron Darling pitch for St John’s? If I recall they aren’t at SEC level, but have a decent history
Ouch! I took a high heater in the head that spun me around. Thank the Lord for helmets. I turned around and found my mom and told her I was OK. Walked back to the box. Coach grabbed me and sent me to the dugout. Probably why I am so dumb now LOL.
Hoping we play today. Been raining here since 3am. I love Fisher and think he will be a contributor. To get where we need to go gonna be hard to keep great arms like Slater and Neely in the pen.
Sounds like Sully in “go” mode already!! Love his quote as it’s spot on and not saying it’s the first game stuff that some might expect. "We walked eight and we hit a guy," O'Sullivan said. "That’s not a recipe for success. Our Friday night guy has to be better.
