I'm tired of hearing that a third-party vote is a wasted vote. It may have been true in the past, but not now. We have two of the most unqualified candidates that have ever run. When a consistent 60 plus percent of the polling shows people do not want a rematch of these two clowns that says something.

 

And you believe that a more qualified third party candidate actually has a chance of winning the election? I guess it's a matter of opinion as far as I'm concerned although both major party candidates leave a lot to be desired one is far worse than the other for reasons that I and other posters have already articulated.

 

They would just siphon off enough votes from an R or D to put the other R or D over the top, or kick it to the peanut gallery in the House to decide. Sucks but true, the R v D thing is baked in.

In general, I think 3rd parties can have enormous impact on policy & election outcomes without ever winning. Look what a tiny house minority has achieved.

 

They won't win any states, so really, this is not a concern. It is just how much will they take from who. If they can draw 10% of the pubs off Trump that would be huge.

the whole election system needs revision with national standards for national offices. big fan of open primaries, ranked choice, no party on ballot

 

only if they can get into a closely divided house or senate. I've always said it would only take 10 - 12 senators and 30 - 50 house members to heavily influence policy, even fewer with the tight balances these days.

 

that would require winning elections. If there was a party with 5-10% support they would impact policy & elections w/o ever winning an election.

By the metric of impacting the outcome of an election all individual votes are wasted. You, me & everyone we know has never cast the deciding vote

In fact, something like this (or Biden dying on November 3rd) may be Trump's best chance of winning. Trump's followers will vote for him no matter what. If another candidate takes away enough of Biden's votes, then Trump has a chance. In a two-candidate race, Trump has no chance. He has raped too many women, paid off too many hookers/strippers, cheated too many years on his taxes, and offended too many European allies with his stupidity. The Europeans won't be voting, but Americans who understand and value their contributions toward world peace and civilization will be.

 

It would be easier to draw blood from a turnip than to draw Trump addicts from their addiction (who shares more than just most of the letters of his name with the vegetable--Trump and the turnip both have the same intellectual capacity). Just look at how republicans in Congress are willing to sacrifice world peace and the U.S. budget for their orange dictator.

 

It isn't the Trump loyalists I'm thinking of. It is the ones that would have held there nose and voted for him because they wouldn't ever vote for a Dem. This would give them an alternative.
