NATO was formed to serve as a counterweight to COMMUNIST SOVIET forces in central and eastern Europe. The Soviet Union b roke apart iover 3 decades ago. We should have congratulated Russians for defeating communism and let Russia join NATO, or NATO should have been disbanded. Regarding Ukraine becoming a member of NATO, Zelensky himself said that he was told in late 2021 (I believe) that Ukraine would not become a member of NATO in the immediate future. Zelensky was told by the US/NATOto not to make this information public. IMO this was because the US wanted to exert pressure on Russia and make Putin think that Ukraine might eventually have US nuclear missiles that could hit Moscow in less than 5 minutes.
