They probably would have and at this point it looks like it would’ve been the wrong decision. Maybe he was just a flashing the pan and he will still suck. There’s always hope
Norvell actually showed improvement year to year. Napier? That’s a No. He has another losing season he’s gone.
Youve got much worse issues with other teams negatively recruiting saying he wont be there next year so why would you commit. Its a valid point too and it translates down to the position coaches and for heaven sakes offensive coordinator and special teams coach you are having trouble hiring for a potential one year stint if we have a 5.5 win year. If you hire the right guy as your next coach with a big name (not someone from the minor leagues) you may not only hold your team together but bring in a few stars from the team you stole him from. Billy might be a great and honorable guy but the on field product is a hard sell when youre left out of a bowl for the 3rd straight year and staring down the barrel of the nations most difficult schedule.
3-6 first year, 5-7 his second..8-13 his first 2 years.. It was his 3rd year he showed improvement..10-3 with an ACC schedule...
So 3-6 to 5-7 isn’t improvement? BN did worse his second season. If he goes 10-3 this year. Woohoo we can compare him to Norvell. The schedule is just an excuse. He should show improvement and not repetitive mistakes if he’s a solid coach. He should show some this year regardless of schedule.
But there’s still plenty of guys out there to get. This isn’t a position where Billy can afford to move slowly. He’s gotta get a guy quick.
I heard they are giving Tyler Miles the reigns for now and then we will just have to see how it goes If there is one thing everyone should know by now, it is Billy moves very deliberately
Improvement regardless of schedule of course. The record is a bad comparison. If we had fsu schedule, it would only look better, it’s not real. Fsu at 10-3 was lucky to beat us at home with AR and a crap defense. They weren’t really very good but they did schedule a decent record. They were actually decent last year until their team quit on them after Travis got hurt.
Yes, year to year improvement. They also played less games. Yes we haven’t played season three yet, but if it’s similar or worse then he should be fired.
I think Michigan's strength and conditioning coach, Ben Herbert would be fine. But he's going to coach with Harbaugh in DC...
Schedule doesn’t really matter. Yes FSU has an “easier” schedule, but they still showed improvement. It’s just improvement, however small. BN didn’t really show any from year one to year two. That’s all I’m saying. The schedule is always going to be tough at UF. Going 6-6 or 7-5 for 24 would be an improvement IMO. 5-7? I don’t know. I think the heat would intense.
Fitzgerald is an example of synergy with a coach. Unless you think BC outbid UF for his services during O'Brien's honeymoon and Napier's "show me" season.
I wouldn't break the bank for any assistant coach. Being successful at one stop seems to rarely transfer to the next stop. And they rarely stay more than a couple of years.
