Yep - Gators have the superior gymnasts, but need to clean up their performances and eliminate the little mistakes. Floor scores have been baffling because we usually shine brightly there. Still a fun group to watch.

The Gators keep shooting themselves in their foot on floor. The lone exception is Anya Pilgrim. If she can get her deer legs to 180, she'd be scoring between 9.950 and 10.0 on both the floor and beam.

On vault, I'd like to see Morgan Hurd or Payton Richards back on vault instead of Ellie Lazzari. I worry about Ellie getting hurt and her inconsistency. Concentrating on bars and beam is plenty for her team contribution, do less and do better.

I have wondered why we don’t see Payton Richards at all. She did come back for a fifth year. I think she has done one FX routine and that’s it.

That said I have no complaints on vault. I’d like to see more E passes on Floor.

I'm pretty sure Leanne, Morgan, and Sloane are doing E passes. Who else does? Who doesn't and how do they compensate to get to 10.0 or get bonus points before any deductions? Bottom line, UF needs fewer mistakes and better floor scores. Floor ranked at 16 in the nation isn't getting it done to UF standards.

If UF is to compete well enough to get to nationals, every .1 will have to be fought for. I just don't see Ellie as UF's best option to maximize vault. Ellie's vault scores; 9.150, 9.825, and 9.825.

Payton has performed on floor twice, the last at UGA. She has had no appearances in the vault lineup.

Brie had one appearance on vault scoring 9.875.

Vault is good, but I think UF can do a bit better.

I know I'm being picky with a young team, but I think they can do better. If they want to get to nationals, they will have to do better, particularly on floor.

    SEC in Week 7:

    Friday:

BYU at Kentucky on the SEC Network+ at 7 PM ET.

Florida, Illinois, Lindenwood at Missouri on the SEC network at 7 PM ET. Being a quad meet, it'll take 2 hours to complete.

Auburn at LSU on the SEC Network at 9 PM ET.

    Saturday:

Arkansas, California, Oklahoma, and Washington in the Metroplex Challenge at 8:30PM ET. To my knowledge, there is no free TV coverage of the best meet of Week 7 featuring the bears and sooners for a second time in three weeks. Hopefully someone will post highlights of the meet on YouTube.

    Monday:

Alabama, Arkansas, and Arizona at Texas Women's, no TV that I know of.

College Gym News on the Warpath Against Judging, Again:

Judge's Inquiry: Observations About Judging From the 2024 Season So Far - College Gym News

Yes, it's a huge problem with the judges and the coaches combined, but how is this problem going to be corrected? From College Gym News published on September 8, 2023:

Judges Inquiry: 9 Ways to Improve NCAA Judging - College Gym News

Good ideas all. The question is how to get the judges and coaches onboard with implementing the changes. I hope they do as the public will eventually abandon the sport if the judging isn't improved with fair and impartial scoring so the sport doesn't become widely viewed as the beauty contest that it is now. The growing sport of NCAA team gymnastics deserves better. Coaches and judges do better.
