Vandy shouldn't even be P5. Why are you equating us with Vandy? So money equals power? Until three years down the road, then rinse and repeat? The problems at Florida are deeper than Napier. We are, and have been, a middle of the pack P5 program now. It will take more than upgraded coaching. Florida football is in a rut and have been for 14 years.
How many of those will we be favored in, 1-2? I hope we are better than expected and some of those listed aren’t some Cinderella stories next year. Lots of uncertainties with the teams listed. Several of those have aspirations of being top ten teams next year . We don’t know how good our opponents will truly be but it doesn’t look promising.
I agree with you. Florida has been in a bad rut! I never thought of the Gators as a bottom feeder in the SEC, but the record indicates otherwise. Other schools are way ahead of the Gators in investing in NIL, while the Gators are building monoliths! My gawd, Ole Miss is far and away ahead of us, and I never thought of Ole Miss as being superior to the Gators!!! Tennessee, until recently, was in a bad funk. UT has definitely turned their program around, but where are the Gators? Are some asleep at the wheel? Asking for a friend.
Like I said before you are saying we will lose a lot because we stink. You’ve effectively lowered the bar. My bar is where I think we should be in Y3 which is a solid top 15-25 team. That team would be competitive vs our schedule If 2024 Florida is 2021-2023 Florida then we get hammered all year and Napier should be fired. Napier shouldn’t get rewarded for lowering a bar and then getting over it
and we are trying to get out of this rut, no? So we shouldn’t be rewarding staying in that rut Until admin comes out and says we don’t care about football and we are dropping out of the SEC then I’m going to assume they want to be competitive. Given we have $ and in a talent rich state we have the foundation to be competitive. and I do think most of the UAA should be fired. They’ve overseen a massive underperformance in football.
that’s not at all what I’m saying. I’m saying if we are a top 15 to 25 team we could still be six and six. We might not be ranked 15 to 25 but if we are the number 20 best team in the country we could damn sure lose seven games on that schedule
We're always trying. If Billy goes, we'll be on head coach #6 since 2010. Everyone has money, and every top team comes to Florida to recruit. It's no longer a regional game. Their seats should be on flames...
The problem isn’t firing a bad coach, it’s hiring a bad coach. There is zero benefit in keeping a guy around that you know is not the guy
Not quite. 3-2 is locked in vs UGA/Tex/MSU/Sam/UK. Anything worse is an insta fire. The remaining 7 teams had an average FPI of 18. Which means if we were the 20th best team we should split those 7. So 3-4 or 4-3. Mathemtically we cant be 20th if we go 2-5 vs teams that average 18th
O-line coach leaving for the NFL. Florida Football: Darnell Stapleton takes Washington Commanders job
Just got home and read that Stapleton is leaving. Damn, is there anyone left to hire for OC, or does BN hire a second OL coach? Personally, I'd rather see a ST or an OC hired, but that's also why I don't get paid the big bucks. It really bugs the snot out of me that Tally keeps making good hires, getting great recruiting classes, and plugging holes through the TP. Maybe it's just me!
I think your frustration is shared by many. Spring practice will be very interesting to see the guys who emerge as probable starters and then what kind of portal activity we will have - in & out. And please, please - no injuries to key players.
Sure. What’s the alternative? Give up and stop trying? Shut down the program? Yes I’d like to keep trying to win.
UCF- no excuses. Win Miami- obvious must win. Is Cristobal a joke or not FSU- Travis won them a lot of games and they lost a lot. LSU- worse defense than we had and lost daniels Miss- we are underdogs Tenn- undetermined. Far from a penciled in loss TAMU- new coach as well and we best them last year I really don't get the low expectations from our fanbase. Rare that we agree on much (maybe you need to reconsider your take) but if we don't win most of these games where is the progress and what was the point of taking our lumps playing the youth last year? If anything I think we should be better than 4 and 3 against that part of the schedule barring injury. Not sure if that means Napier gets fired if we don't but I agree that the schedule strength needs to stop being used as an excuse to justify a losing season.
This is all reasonable. And one other thing keeps coming back to me: UF has won only 1 road game in each of CBN's two seasons. I'm still shocked by how unprepared they looked against Kentucky, and (frankly) unhappy with CBN's "they-ran-stuff-we-didn't-expect" lame excuse for it. To get to just .500 in 2024, UF will have to win more than one road game. History under CBN isn't on their side.
Agree but the optimist in me says that the talent and coaching acquisitions on defense along with a 2nd year of Mertz, Wilson Johnson, and a better Oline situation this year should show results. We were horrific on defense and yet still competitive in our games without James. We were pretty bad at tackle largely due to the sudden departure of Goodwin due to awful and unforseen circumstance. I have to believe we have greatly improved in those areas and our young talent flashed considerably last year. Also, other teams have issues as well. Everyone is acting like our opponents are nfl teams....
