Democrats loved Trump until he became a Republican. His tough gut persona is just the face he puts on for politics

The way Trump mocked the disabled reporter (who he didn't know was disabled imo) was the same method (arm gestures) that he used to mock others in the same speech.

NATO should be mocked as well.. it's a political organization that's's been in military decline for 35 years l. Putin doesn't want the Baltics or Poland. It's the neocons that want to break up Russia

It's an opinion, not an article - mislabeled at the end by the USA Today, but not surprising. Opinions are just that - what folks think about something. Articles should lay out the facts.

    "You didn't build that..."
    "Pay your fair share..."
    "white patriarchy"
    "cultural appropriation"

I agree that some things Trump does/says appeal to our base desires. I would also agree that the statements above do the same thing - dividing us and creating enmity between "us and them." Trump does it with a hatchet, Leftists do it very smoothly and with greater sophistication. Pick your poison; but, don't think for a second this is a one-side only deal.

Trump is easily the most powerful president in history … in terms of the psychological impact he’s had on those who hate him.

A perfect example of the euphemisms used to describe Trump's appeal is that uttered by his Florida sycophant Mario Rubio, who just a day or so ago said in a TV interview that part of Trump's appeal is that "he doesn't talk like a traditional politician." IOW he talks like a cruel a**hole. As you are very well aware, "Little Mario." (Is it Mario who has the "ugly wife" or is that another Republican politician who bows down to Trump?)

I don't know what is wrong with people who hate Trump. I guess they just aren't wired right.

good article. Our country keeps being surprised and trying to grasp why his followers equate effective leadership with - cruelty and attempting to break our structure of governing. This article definitely helps understand Trump Followers

“Yet, millions of Americans remain captivated by his displays of cruelty. Attendees at his rallies laugh and cheer − disparaging not only political adversaries but also women who call out abuse, ethnic groups, disabled individuals, undocumented immigrants, and others. Conservative media outlets relish replaying the clips.

Tragically, political discourse has turned this common human weakness into a virtue, But in the case of Trump and many of his most ardent supporters, “the cruelty is the point”

the Hebrew Bible’s most repeated instruction involves the stranger: “You shall not oppress a stranger, for you know the heart of the stranger, having yourselves been strangers in the land of Egypt Exodus 23:9. "Love the stranger as yourself” Leviticus 19:34 and similarly over 30 times.”

I mean, for how much democrats and independents loathe and disdain him, this certainly suggests he is the perfect representative of the Republican party then as he has tapped into, and fully represents the core of Republican values.

good point. “owning the libs” is a big reason trump followers support him. I wish they looked at the issues instead of what does Trump say about it.

Speaking only for myself, I never loved Trump. I did think that he was very entertaining and enjoyed watching him on the Apprentice and even fell for his con about being a great businessman to some extent. That all went by the wayside when he started promoting the birther myth in 2011 and 2012. Ironically, we probably would have never had the Trump problem if Obama didn't make him the butt of a joke at the 2011 White House Correspondents Dinner.

Whether or not Putin wants Poland remains to be seen. Given that the Baltic states were part of both the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union not unlike Ukraine, it's a virtual certainty that if Ukraine falls Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania will be next on Vlad's list to right what he undoubtedly considers a recent wrong.
For little background and historic context on the prior status of the Baltic states.

    Inflation
    Illegal immigration
    Ukraine
    Israel

Doesn’t matter to me one whit what Trump says about things - it matters to me what he DOES about things. Here are four issues - Trump is miles ahead of the Biden administration on all four. Mean tweets? Yep - we suck on that point. Clue: don’t listen nor read tweets and your life improves

What do you think Biden did that Trump didn't do that caused inflation?

Causing thousands of Americans to die through his Covid lying and incompetence.
Stabbing Kurdish allies in the back, leaving them for Turkey to slaughter, with a sudden pullout in Syria after a phone chat with Erdogan.
Ruining American farmers with his Chinese tariff.

Yep, "it matters to me what he DOES about things" too.

Inflation was global. The US was actually in the middle of the pack, and we are currently the strongest economy out of all G7 nations.

The current undocumented immigration wave started coming in 2019. Who was POTUS back then? If it weren't for COVID and the COVID policies like Title 42, 2020 would have seen even more than 2019. All Trump has on Biden on immigration is hateful, racist rhetoric and billions spent on a wall that accomplishes nothing.

Trump is Putin's useful idiot. Think Trump would do better than Biden on Ukraine? Please don't make me laugh. Donald "Peace in our time" Trump would bend over and do whatever Putin asks. Just read what Trump had to say about NATO recently!

As for Israel, what would Trump do differently? Maybe even support Israel even more than Biden is my guess. Remember, Trump has a Jewish son-in-law and spends most of his time in NY and S. Florida, where the Jewish population is largest. And Trump needs to be loved and adored.

Trump has a way of convincing people he's something he is not, which is a competent leader. Trump isn't. He's nothing but a fraud that has declared bankruptcy several times and only cares about himself.

    Exactly.

Posted this link several times before. It says everything about what Trump thinks regarding Putin's invasion of Ukraine, how he would have responded if he were president at the time of the invasion and what he would do if he were elected again.
Trump calls Putin 'genius' and 'savvy' for Ukraine invasion
