My one trip to Cocksville. Man were they pissed. We wisely got out of the stadium quickly. It got pretty ugly.
Just got chills reading your rendition. Was there as well with about 5 friends and a couple noles. When they went down and kicked the FG I thought we were done, my buddy looked at me with the most calm look and said “it’s not over”. Moments later it was. Man what a game.
I was at the SECCG that year, we kept alternating going down to check the score as they weren’t real good about updating it during the game.
It was a great one, crazy side note I went with 3 friends from home and got them tickets together. I had a solo student ticket that I earned the right to buy sleeping overnight outside the stadium. I figured I was more likely to know someone in the student area than my friends. Stroll up to my seat and lo and behold a girl I had a somewhat casual relationship with was seated next to me. She was staying with her family at the same hotel as the players, and we all ended up there later that night. Good night on many levels.
Lucky you. I've seen 5 heartbreakers (75, 78, 80, 81, 83), a major upset when we were number one, a total beatdown (82) and 2 semi beatdowns (79. 87).
Being in the stands for '80 earns you heartbreak points for Life. No question about that. My only Jax game was '09... the one where we came in #1 and finished the day STILL #1, thank you Tim. The game I most wish I could have been to is IMO the most underrated game of all time program-wise... '91 bama. 35-0. Bigger than USC conference wise and that Shutout of those guys is what gives us the all-time non-shutout record instead of them.
Damn, that sucks. My first Gator game was a Georgia loss it may have been 75 or 78. Wes scored and dunked over the goalpost and hurt himself. We lost a close one that day. I was 8 or 10 depending what year that was. I remember all those obnoxious doggie fans stuck in traffic on 10, listening to The Greaseman trying to get to Jax.
Ah, the worst part of the game - being around all those dumb drunk mutt fans. I think we actually won that game with Wes. Believe it was 77. Of course I missed that one. 78 was close. Lost by 2 when our comeback fell short due to missing a 2 point conversion near the end. I was there but don't remember the game at all for some reason. I may have been a tad inebriated (my freshman year). 75 was my first Fla-Ga game and unfortunately I can still picture the late fleaflicker TD by the dumb mutts to win the game.
I also remember that very well! Gators were playing at at Kentucky! Gators were behind in the 4th Qtr. and Wuerffel took the GATORS down the field, Maybe it was a pass play of about 30 yards or so from Wuerffel to Chris Doering who caught it in the corner of the End Zone. “Doering’s got a touchdown, Doering’s got a touchdown! Oh my’’ Doering’s got a touch down!”- Mic Hubert, Gator Radio Network.
I remember my dad and I hugging each other we were so happy. It's a good memory I have of him. We LOVED OUR GATORS!!!!
I can’t remember the year but Wes was my favorite player and he scored but left the game and we lost.
