Listed as “Assistant Athletic Director For Football Sports Performance” at Ohio State. Salary reportedly $863,000. Break the bank and bring him to Gainesville.
he was at UF with urbs- stayed 1 year with Muschamp, for a total of 7 years - as soon as urbs took the oh ho ho state job, he jumped to the bucknuts and has now been there 11 years - he is not coming back to hogtown
It is not always about money. We as fans seemingly do not understand the premium that coaches place on relationships. Marotti has no relationship to speak of with Napier. Spurrier probably recommended Fitzgerald to Napier, so there was a secondary relationship there. Fitzgerald has a primary relationship with O’Brien at Boston College, so that was an easy change for him. Marotti is not leaving his Urban Meyer/ Ryan Day circle. He only stayed at UF under Muschamp because Meyer still had an office at UF and maintained a relationship with him until Urbs took a new coaching job.
Agree 100% but esp. with the bolded. To us as fans football is fun, but it's a job to these guys. And colleagues and boss plays a huge part in workplace happiness.
I wanted to keep Savage... and I still wonder why we let him go. That was one move I did NOT like at the time and it seems I was right to feel that way considering what has transpired with the guy Napier brought in with him.
The question is with 3 consecutive losing seasons, (2 with BN) the perception that BN is on the hot seat which often is bad juju, and now a S&C coach bolting, what great S&C coach wants to risk his future? I think at this point BN goes back to our less than stellar coach. Either way not good.
As I posted on the other thread, the only really viable option is to buy a mercenary for a year or two. And that means a LOT of dough. Or you go down your way. And I am betting on this scenario.
I really liked Savage, but in Mullins last season and the last part of the one before I got the feeling we faded in the 4th qtr. I don’t know wether that’s due to strength and conditioning in part or altogether, or not at all is beyond me, but I can’t help but wonder if Savage had become frustrated with the teams lack of discipline and poor team attitude.
I doubt he goes back. It’s not that hard of a position to fill I wouldn’t think. Look at the list of top 50 guys and double their paycheck.
It usually isn't when you make enough to live well without financial stress, let alone $70,000+ a month. Sure, getting the best compensation you can is still important since your trading your time for it, but not many people are going to trade happiness for some money at that income level.
At some point, money no longer affects how you day is going to go or how you spend the day. I’m not there.
In other news the mutts special teams coach who also did some S/C work in Athens left the program yesterday. Cochran was his name I think. No reason given and I can't upload the article. Thoughts?
Napier's future as well as the Gators future are intertwined because if Napier leaves so will some of our coveted players.
