So doesn't this prevent the entire discussion of the 19th amendment as well?

I thought it was all about protecting kids. Now we have to limit what adults can say to each as well?

Are we still allowed to teach about the 1st amendment?

I am so glad that I don’t have to deal with this craziness anymore but at the same time it makes me incredibly sad.

I remember that there was a time when we as Americans held that one party government structures (Soviet Union, North Korea) was a bad thing.

    I miss those days.

Typical of this version of Florida government. They “fix” the affordable housing crisis by giving tax breaks for higher end housing out of reach of working Floridians and cut the local tax base. Must service the sources of the bribes. You can get those who need help to vote for you with culture war issues

The Tampa Bay area including Pasco already has a surplus of rental units serving people earning between 80% and 120% of the median income, said Mariano, the Pasco commissioner. He pointed to University of Florida data that shows the area lacks about 380,000 cheaper units — one-bedrooms that cost no more than $1,305 per month and two-bedrooms under $1,566.

Pasco argued to state leaders that the existing Live Local income targets for affordable housing don’t meet what Pasco needs, and proposed language to allow each community to define its need.

“It just can’t be a one-size-fits-all solution,” Pasco County Commissioner Kathryn Starkey told the Tampa Bay Times. She called the tax exemption “corporate welfare.”

“It’s a tax giveaway with no benefit whatsoever.”

From the perspective of the speaker, isn’t that pretty much a textbook violation of their civil rights? I get a school guest is probably not getting paid, but the reason given for needing permission to speak before an audience is that it’s “black author”??? That’s pretty blatant (perhaps too blatant). So the inference is some parents might say no based on skin color. Effectively, what you have is racial segregation.

Way to go Florida! You finally did it. Maybe the teacher is trying to prove a point in adhering to the state law in this way on the form (if we want to give the benefit of the doubt to the teacher as trying to prove a point, it could go either way honestly). Regardless, it certainly shows the stupid cans of worms opened up with bad law.

Back Historically communists call people who disagree with their positions "fascists."

deSantis could have been Trump's VP according tor a Trump insider. . DeSantos and his wife decided to take the 10 million dollars they were offered to run against Trump by an anti-Trump billionaire. As some of us predicted on Twitter, this didn't work out well for Ron. MAGA won't forget, at least as far as 2028 is concerned. As an aside, I heard that Nikki Haley told Trump to his face that she would never run against him. Trump doesn't forgive people who lie to him (nor will MAGA. Haley's future looks dim.

Pubs in the legislature starting to ignore Desi. He doesn't have all that covid funding to grease the skids with anymore

Ron DeSantis Ignored by Florida Republicans Upon Return (newsweek.com)

After his presidential run ended with an anticlimactic exit, Ron DeSantis has been widely snubbed by fellow Republicans in Florida, as a number of tax breaks he proposed for residents appeared to fall on deaf ears.

The hard-right Florida governor, who's once again prioritizing Florida after eight months of presidential campaigning, recently proposed to cut homeowners' insurance taxes and assessments, but his initiative was rejected by the state's House Republicans.

DeSantis, who's facing an ongoing insurance crisis in Florida, proposed to cut the 1.75 percent premium tax and other charges and assessments on homeowners and flood insurance premiums to alleviate costs on residents.

But Florida House Republicans are concerned that the federal pandemic funds are drying up and think the state should tighten the belt, even as Floridians are currently paying the highest home insurance premiums in the country. Instead, they are considering a scaled-back tax package that doesn't include DeSantis' proposal, with tax cuts for utilities and businesses but not homeowners.

He’s a nobody now. Almost Dan Quayle level of toxicity around his competence. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving dork.

The new Civics standards removed Tinker but kept Hazelwood when covering 1st amendment. We chose to simply continue teaching Tinker.

Not surprising. Removing the case that verified/expanded student's free speech and leaving in the case that verified/expanded a school's right to censor is right in line with Desantisism.

Recently read Ron DeSantis's book "The Courage to Be Free."

Make no mistake, it's not an autobiography nor a documentary, but rather a memoir of his life and career to date. Folks who do not agree with his politics will not like him and vice versa, plain and simple.

Difference of politics = differing values, morals, and ethics. All of which is largely subjective.

One man's wilderness is another man's theme park.
