Brookins only had about 2 hits in the fall and started preseason quietly, but in the past 10 days got hot and now is VERY HOT.! The guy looks like a ballplayer and now is likely to play opening weekend. Defense is at least good or better throughout the squad. The guys who are hitting will play, Brookins is a good example. Chances are that he will cool off, but until he does, he is earning playing time.

Well, guys, it's nice to be back in the land of the living! All I can say is that if I had to get some virus, at least it's over with before the season started.

Thanks Gal, observations from line score. Surprised that McNeillie only pitched one inning as I had him a likely mid-week SP (perhaps will get some additional innings this week). Smith and Menendez did well and I’ve circled both as possible newbie contributors. Gomberg got roughed up and Clemente was so-so. Hoping Clemente, who is coming off TJ, can begin to show more consistency or he may be relegated some—he has mid/upper 90s heat but his control has been off. Looking at “A team” alignment it appears that OF is -- Shelnut, Guy, Robertson at least for start of the season….

Gomberg has been roughed up a few times now. He might end up in midweek relief if he doesn't get things figured out. On McNeillie, you never know if these guys feel a strain or something so it's better to be careful before the season. Or perhaps it was a quick check to be sure all good if they were worried about something previously, no telling. I'm still not sure if Guy gets the start if his bat isn't better than Robertson or Yost. I really like Guy playing CF but we have other very good players to choose from. Friday can't get here soon enough.

A bit off topic, but if anyone was wondering who the guy is that’s been participating in outfield drills and taking bp with a wooden bat, that is Dalton Guthrie. Took me a week to figure out who it was, lol. He had a wild offseason and has been traded multiple times after being called up at the end of last season, but he is currently with the red sox organization.

I was trying to figure that one out - thought it might be Jacob Young. Guessing Guthrie has been moved to the outfield???

Utility player. He’s been listed as inf/of his last few stops. Think he played of for the phillies last year.

Looks like Wyatt brought his wooden bat to bp today.

Ahhhhh, I stand corrected. I mistaken him for Evans. So you were right that Evans was not taking BP. Thanks for keeping me on the straight and narrow. Yeah right!

You had me so confused, lol. You’re usually spot on, but I watch Ty pretty closely and I hadn’t seen him hit. I don’t think he even came in to stand behind the cage with his group today.
