Last March geologists estimated they found the largest deposit of rare earth materials in Wyoming. Last week they said it’s actually 64% bigger than they thought at 2.3B tons. Today China produces 95% of rare earth materials using their measly 44M tons. If accurate it will end China’s stranglehold on rare earth materials. Hadn’t heard anything on this recently. Over 2 billion tons of rare Earth mineral found in US could make country the new 'world leader' The US could soon become a world leader in rare earth minerals after over two billion metric tons were found in Wyoming. The discovery could mean America taking over China, whose supplies stand at 44 million metric tons. According to American Rare Earths Inc, the discovery 'exceeded [their] wildest dreams' having only drilled around a quarter of the project. https://newsdirect.com/news/america...stimate-at-halleck-creek-in-wyoming-283534612 The updated estimate now stands at an impressive 2.34 billion tonnes, with 1.81 million tonnes consisting of 27% Magnetic Rare Earth Oxides (“MREO”) at 3,196 ppm Total Rare Earth Oxides (“TREO”) using a 1,000ppm TREO cut-off.Of particular note is the measured and indicated resources, which have seen a staggering 128% increase, totaling 1.42 billion tonnes with a grade of 3,295 ppm TREO using the same 1,000ppm TREO cut-off.
Between that and this massive lithium discovery posted in prior threads seems like we are on our way to raw material independence for batteries, etc, which is pretty huge given the geopolitics.
It's Wyoming, they'll probably have shoeless 12 year olds mining it with while their supervisors dump the waste in the nearest river and occasionally takes a shot at a condor ...
The question is how long will it take to build the infrastructure to mine and distribute it effectively.
Way to go, Joe! See? Biden is doing amazing things for the country. Seriously- thanks for posting a positive story.
They'll look the other way in Wyoming/Idaho. They wouldn't in a west coast "coastal state", or a state with an excess of natural beauty, like Montana or Colorado.
Great news though it could be a decade or more to market. Many steps in the process of understanding what is there and the economics, environmental impacts, and profitability. Maybe they're far down that road already....
Depends on what part of Wyoming we are talking about. The beautiful mountain part or the plains part where the state tree is the telephone pole. Either way, good news to have a domestic supply.

We will mine it cleaner than China will. It’s a net positive to the world if you look at it that way.
If you can get Hollywood movie stars or New York executives to invest millions of dollars in vacation homes there, then there's a good chance that the environmental regulations will be strict and fully enforced. I'm fairly certain that you and I don't count. You have to be able to outbid the mining companies for the politicians, or have full access to the press to embarrass the politicians into action.
