Perhaps. But I don't think that is how it works.

But he did have two options:

    1. Fail, and collect a buyout. Something virtually no other American has; or
    2. Succeed, and win more games, which is what he was hired to do.

I seriously doubt Kelly is getting paid more as a coordinator at OSU than he was as head coach at UCLA, so I don't think money was the reason he left.

Dude believes the BN is a dead man walking. No one and mean no leaves UF for BC in a lateral move.

A lot less work and responsibilities plus may win a bit more. Daily life has to be better.

O no, maybe he has been following Ali, Ben and Chris on social media? "What, I'm to help coach ST's and BN still calling plays, I'm outta here..."

But can he have a classic Muschamp postgame press conference this upcoming season?

“Do you know what a midline is?” Is some of the funniest ish ever.

Buyouts for assistant coaches can usually be finagled around anyway. They’re generally allowed out of their contract if the move is considered to be a promotion. It’s how we get the weird titles like “associate head coach of the defense” that this board is always crying about.

It’s interesting how many folks want iron clad contracts for all these positions. Do other schools do that? Do we want to be a school that forces coaches to stay when other opportunities arise?

His buyout was going to be down to 4 mil after this year, so he wasn't going to be leaving a lot on the table. He'll make a lot at OSU.

I hear you, but I see no problem with some line-drawing moments.

"Not leaving a lot on the table"? What's your definition of a "lot"?

He would make $6.2 in salary at UCLA for 2024; his buyout, if you are right, would be $4 million AFTER the 2024 season.

He is getting paid around $2 million per year in salary at OSU, with a $1.5 million buyout.

Just for fun, let's say Chipper made it through 2004 and 2005 at UCLA before he got fired. In that event, he would earn $12.4 million in salary plus $4 million in his buyout--$16.4 million.

If the same scenario transpired at OSU, he would earn $4 million in salary, plus a $1.5 million buyout- $5.5 million. Assuming things work out for him at OSU, and no one gets fired, nor are there major adjustments in his salary, it would take him basically 8 years to make what he would have gotten out of UCLA.

And if Day gets fired in a few years, Chipper takes it in the shorts, bad.

Sounds like a "lot" of money to me.

    Chipper didn't leave over money.

I hear ya. But staying for one season isn’t too much to ask. What kind of dickhead takes a job for five weeks.

That's giving him a lot of credit, considering that he has already been a college HC for 6 years.

I didn’t Know Miami’s was that highly regarded. Hopefully we can grab someone really quickly. This is a position that is extremely important obviously so getting somebody quickly that can step right in would be really important.
