That’s ok. We’ll have the best cross country team in football pads when Hocke takes over the S&C program again.
Wow...did not realize this. Of course all athletes were given a 5th year of eligibility due to the pandemic season. How did he qualify for a 6th year? Did he get nicked up and miss a year?
His point was that they wore orange jerseys some in the 70s. I just wanted to point out that when I wrote ‘primary’, it didn’t mean ‘only’. As another example, although orange was the primary home color in the 80s, they also had blue jerseys in the late 80s.
2024 will be a tough year. Bad scheduling by the conference, as well as by the UF administration itself, is coming to bite us. 2025 schedule is looking much better, though.
if I have it right…2019 true freshmen doesn’t play, 2020 season doesn’t count due to Covid. 2021 redshirt freshmen. 2022 redshirt sophomore, 2023 redshirt jr, 2024 redshirt senior.
I didn’t say I would push him out, but I would understand if they did. The coaching staff will be graded and retained as coaches based on wins and losses. If the team wins, having Weston and others on the team for several years with almost zero football production doesn’t matter. There are several others players on the roster in a similar place (Simons, Pouncey, etc - though I don’t know their gpa but I’m assuming it is pretty good but not 4.0 like Weston). However, if there are post spring portal players available that would contribute to the teams success on the field in 2024- such as a Ricky Pearsal who was a post spring transfer- I - and this is me personally- wouldn’t have an issue if the staff asked someone like these players to move on. They have already graduated; and barely take the field in games. if Napier doesn’t win enough games in 2024, he isn’t going to be able to keep his job by telling fans and boosters how the team gpa was better and how he has integrity by not encouraging players to transfer who don’t contribute on the field. That may all be nice but won’t save his job. Some players that can contribute now to 1-2 more wins could. It is just the way that it is.
It will be a dumb move by the coaches if they push the one guy who's actually doing the "student" athlete thing. He's one guy. One person to take his spot wouldn't make much of a difference on how the team will perform on the field this year. However, if they retain him, UF will have an alumnus that will contribute to the university in some form or passion. After all, there's life after football.
