Lakewood Church shooting: Shooter used long gun, threatened bomb (chron.com) The shooter at Lakewood Church on Sunday is deceased, authorities confirmed during a Sunday press conference. A 5-year-old child was shot during an ensuing firefight between responding officers and the suspect and is in critical condition. The child has been transported to Texas Children's Hospital. Houston Police Chief Troy Finner told media gathered outside Lakewood that the suspect was a woman between the ages of 30 and 35. The suspect entered the building through a entrance on its western side at 1:53 p.m. The suspect was wielding a long gun and wearing a trench coat and backpack and was accompanied by a small child of about four or five years old.
It’s nice that Texas is providing some diversity in school and church shootings. “Texas where women can’t control their own bodies but by God they are free to shoot shit up.”
Certainly glad it wasn't worse. She opened fired during a church service and, other than her, only two people were injured - a man and the child with the shooter. And it's not clear who shot them.
How the hell do you get into a house of worship with a long rifle? She wouldn't have made it to the door of my synagogue without triggering a lockdown and an instant alert to the local PD. If we don't know you, you don't get in without a cursory search. Orthodox shuls on the north side are armed to the teeth.
While I seriously doubt that many people enter houses of worship carrying firearms, in Texas open carry of rifles is legal which may be why she didn't draw any attention. My synagogue (in Northern Virginia) uses off duty police officers for security during Shabbat or holiday services. At other times one either has to use a key code to enter the premises or alternatively has to be buzzed in.
Not sure about the handgun versus rifle distinction in terms of what would be expected, but it seems that most Christian churches have armed congregants. Most US Pastors Use Armed Congregants as Church Security
Apparently the insecure types tried to spread that it was a trans woman. Not true - grievance unsupported
These tranny shootings are getting out of hand. BTW, when are they going to release the Nashville tranny’s manifesto ?
We get up to three off-duty cops during Yontif but can't afford it on Shabbat, so the local PD parks a cruiser out front. The reform shul up the street also has a unit parked in front. Those two cars are there all week long. We also got the key panel set up but I've been off the board so long, I forgot the code. Our current head of security carries and attends evening and morning services. He's a member of an all Jewish group that goes to the range together. I don't think it requires a minyan.
plus pushing the false narrative the trans and LGBQ are dangerous. To take that a step further, what do they propose we do with all the " dangerous" people. Frightening to think about.
