Link to article: 20 Best Stadiums in College Football The Swamp falls at 10 in the rankings. Do you agree or disagree? Where should Ben Hill Griffin actually fall?
Doak/Zook Field at 4 is a joke. Brick my foot. Yes, it’s a brick facade but underneath it’s still an erector set. I Unconquered statue is a joke, too.
When the Gators were competing for titles ( and winning them) the Swamp was clearly one of the top venues in the nation. Still a great venue, but need to start fielding better teams to regain the rep.
Keith liked the Gators... but despised the small/tiny broadcast booth at Ron Zook field in Tallahassee.
Really? I wasn't there live and in person but the Utah game sure looked like one of the best and loudest The Swamp has been in a while. Even on TV you can see that place was ROCKING!
The Swamp, even in our down years, should be top five. When we're back on top...shoot, gotta be top three. I'm not sure who the top two are. The proximity of the stands to the field is the difference. Maniacal fan base helps. Swamp rule #1: If you can talk by Wednesday, you didn't scream loud enough on Saturday! In other Gator related grovelling, I want to see DJ on the field asap. Hope to see him balling in the spring game. Go Gators.
Keith Jackson was a pac 10/big10 homer. I don't claim he disliked anyone but he came from a time when the rose bowl was "the grand daddy of them all" and never left it. In any event the list is all over the place. There is no criteria and each ranking is based on some different attribute like history, scenery, traditions, etc. It's a dumb list of someone's random opinion. I don't typically care about these things but seeing fsu up there is laughable.
He for sure did NOT like the Seminoles... which that alone makes him okay in my book. I liked him and his broadcasts.
Curious where you heard that. Never heard him stray from the usual Bowden praise the rest of the college football world heaped on him.
One game he was doing was the Gators versus the noles (forget which year) at Ron Zook Field... Lol... and he could do nothing but complain about how tiny and uncomfortable he was in their broadcast booth. I laughed my azz off. But you can tell wanted out of the ACC BS, and that's why he wanted to go out west. He hated the ACC and I suspect the noles. Back then the PAC-12 teams still had that mystique about them... and that tradition. That has changed obviously, but he and the ABC contract compelled him to do those crappy ACC games... even still they have crappy games. I also remember him wanting to leave for the west as well... I for one would too if were forced to listen to whore chant all game long.
I was there..and it was very loud ..the Utah fans we spoke to after the game said the Swamp experience was the best they had experienced..said it was extremely loud..
This article is inaccurate and poorly done. Doak is a joke of a stadium. 2nd largest continuous? Continuous? It’s just an oval and it’s brick veneer over the rusted steel frame. The brick supports nothing except the bricks above each course. It’s the first stadium I’ve ever been spit on, from a PO FSU man who couldn’t stomach UF beating F$U again at their crappy, dilapidated, overrated, POS so-called stadium. This stadium shouldn’t even be in the top 100.
Ya'll talking about Jackson, Keith, that is. I liked that Gatorade commercial he did years ago. He was standing in the Swamp saying, "from the Swamp in Florida, all the way to the Rose Bowl" or whatever... One of my favorite Gatorade commercials. Everybody is a homer from somewhere, but he was one of the best. I can't remember the guy they used to cut to sometimes, on Espn, a kind of big-ass turkey neck gobbler geezer guy. A disheveled has-been. They'd get his opinion. Which was typically worthless. Any of us would be way better at opinions than him. As far as stadiums go, if the stakes are high, any stadium can rock. Utah rocked. The Swamp rocked, IMHO that's why we beat Tenn! The other games we just barely missed on was because of the Swamp. That was in spite of the defence. The Gator fans did their part last year. The offense, for the most part, did too. We could use another TD per game this year. "The Swamp, where only Gators get out alive..." RIP: Karl Kauffman did that stadium V.O. he passed on a month or so ago. We used to work on Gator Growl together and do live remotes back in the day. Let ratchet it up this year... Go Gators.
