So Kamala versus Trump. <sigh> Lesser of two evils as there is no way in hell I would vote for Trump.
Odds are you'd get #2. The Democratic Party would literally have to say, "We're picking Kamala, and that's it." And you know people would have a meltdown over it.
Him and his posse are enjoying the ride too much. He steps aside, the whole team is out of a job and granddaughter has to move out of the WH
Zero chance. Think about the optics of passing over the more qualified Black woman who is the VP to pick the white man who is the Secretary of Transportation while telling the party's base they have no say in it. You risk alienating your most reliable base (Black women).
Reagan was 78 when he retired. Biden is already 81 and wants to go until 85. I don’t recall how bad Reagan was by 74, when he ran again. I think the assasination attempt set him back some. I’d say Reagan at 78 was about like Biden is now at 81.
But his appearance included an additional flub when discussing the potential for a hostage deal in Gaza, in which he referred to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi as “the president of Mexico.” https://www.wsj.com/politics/bidens...-counsel-report-verbal-flubs-159c77f5?mod=mhp The report also came the same week Biden confused current and past European leaders at campaign events. Speaking in Las Vegas on Sunday, he described a gathering with fellow world leaders after he took office in 2021 and referred to “Mitterrand from France,” instead of French President Emmanuel Macron. François Mitterrandwas France’s leader from 1981 to 1995 and died in 1996. During a New York fundraiser Wednesday, Biden spoke again about that meeting and described a moment when “Helmut Kohl of Germany looked at me.” Kohl was chancellor of Germany from 1982 to 1998 and died in 2017.
I know. DEI / political correctness prevents us from picking the most qualified. And you ask how we got Trump and Biden as the candidates? Because we are choosing on optics instead of substance
Just for the fun of speculation… I say 10% chance or less the Democrats have something up their sleeve and that Biden will step aside regardless of what the GOP does. I have no idea what that might look like or whether Harris would have to fight for it. Assuming Trump is the nominee, Democrats probably go with the old guy who already beat the other old guy. In the very unlikely event Trump were to have a health problem or were convicted by then and something crazy were to happen at the GOP Convention in July, I think Biden would more than likely step aside.
So if we have to have a DEI candidate let’s go with Raphael Warnock. I’d have much more confidence he could handle himself on the public stage.
Person A: Elected Vice President of the United States, U.S. Senator of the largest state in the country, Attorney General of the largest state in the country, and DA of a large city Person B: Appointed Secretary of Transportation, elected Mayor of a large town, and lost state Treasurer election You're trying to tell me that Person B is the "most qualified"? I think this might be the perfect example of why we need things like affirmative action and "DEI." Put aside the "optics," what does "substance" even mean when you're championing the far less accomplished person? Pete has never won an election beyond the mayoral level. And no, I don't ask how we got Trump and Biden. They're the candidates because the voters chose them. EDIT: There's also the fact that Pete Buttigieg is gay, so he would fit within the evil "DEI" too. I'm all for Warnock. But again, it's not happening. And drop the "DEI candidate" stuff.
First, I’d say in actual substance Pete B is probably more qualified. As secretary of Transportation he is dealing with congress as well as state and local governments, as well as regulators and private entities in a large and important sector of the economy. The VP doesn’t have to do much, unless they are given a primary role as Biden and Cheney were. As far as I know Harris wasn’t particularly remarkable as a Senator. Honestly none of us really know her capability - the problem is she just doesn’t seem to be comfortable on a national stage. Newsom and Pete B have both proven themselves capable of handling themselves on a national stage, both making frequent appearances on Fox News. As to the DEI narrative, this is an example of what happens when you hire based solely on race / gender etc. By limiting his picks to a black woman, that limits the population to about 10%, and more likely about five percent given there just aren’t that many black women at that level. Do any of us really believe that Kamala Harris was the most capable and best pick out there? Now we are paying the price because no one thinks she can do the job and one way or other it could help put Donald Trump back in the White House.
Of course. As I said, y'all are only proving my point. Name me the last five secretaries of transportation without googling it. Name me the last five vice presidents without googling it. I'm quite confident you can do the latter (because I can do it easily). If you can do the former, my hat is off to you. I can't. As opposed to a "meritocracy" where a far less accomplished white man should get the job, right? Let's put it this way, Kamala was capable enough that Donald Trump, the incumbent President in 2020, is no longer in the White House.
I'm waiting for Biden to forget Trump's name and maybe call him Bush or (as Reagan once called Bush) Bosch. And he'll refer to Kamala as Camille or Camel or just "What's-Her-Name."
