100% this. Love watching a premier matchup that is a tight game start to finish. Doesn't matter if I have no rooting interest. Also, why I roll my eyes about next years schedule. If UF is up to the task and competitive the whole way through (hopefully winning more than losing), it's going to be a banger of a year for watching football.

 

Same reason Jamarcus Russell got $32 mill guaranteed, his future employers/sponsors gave him that valuation.

The fact that the same people will complain about the current landscape being a free for all that needs regulation while simultaneously bemoan government intervention is just top notch comedy. The NCAA is just as bad, if not worse, than the federal/state government.

 

It’s not that it’s a bad thing, I’d take the cash too. It’s just that I’d prefer to watch Tony Dorsey lose to the Steelers than join the Steelers. No loyalty by anyone makes for people being fans of players, not teams. Tony Gwynn was probably my last true player and team that I was a fan of in pro sports. There’s a lot that’s been lost . It’s just not what it use to be. Maybe you’re too young to know how it use to be and don’t miss those days with those players. It’s just not the same anymore. We still watch. The tv pays for viewers no matter why we watch. I doubt future fans will ever understand the rivalry between gators, puppies ,and noles. The new generation doesn’t care so much if ETN is a stinking dog.

I'm not concerned about the NFL and I doubt the players are either. They seem happy with the NIL situation.. why toss out something that works just fine for them right now. That's without all the red-tape and strings attached to the Union BS. Unions have NOTHING BETTER TO OFFER THESE COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYERS.

Agreed. This is the oddest school for this to take place because they are an Ivy school....no athletic scholarships. Ostensibly, players going to Dartmouth are playing for the love of the game and competition.....would they not be able to get into Dartmouth without being on the team? Would they be dismissed from school if they decided to leave the team? I can easily see the Ivy's deciding to end school sponsored NCAA competition and just go to the club team model.

 

That isn't what the article said. It said that the players were spending more than the 20 hour limit. The school may not be requiring that amount. It would take further investigation to see if the coach was requiring more than the allowable hours.

 

Technically the only difference in a for profit vs. a non profit organization is where the money generated is going, and as you mention its not going to shareholders or owners because there aren't any. Typically the lion's share of the revenue goes for employee compensation and programs. Also, they may not call it profit, but there is definitely a thing called revenues in excess of expenses.

As you mention, however, based on what I've read over the years there are only a few handfuls of schools whose athletic programs as a whole operate in the black (UF being one of them).

 

Why would a player give his nil to a players union? The players union is what got the pkayers 51% of of nfl profit.
