Everyone keeps saying the same things over and over though, and it simply breaks down into the camps that finds the whole thing icky (though they are the ones that continually start the threads) and people who want to live and let live. Very few people posting seem interested in the topic on any sort of intellectual level.
I consider myself socially liberal and don’t want a big brother in healthcare but I can’t support transitioning at those ages. My take is reversible treatments would be fine with a qualified medical professional attesting to the patient’s and parent’s sincerity. Physical transitioning would be a 21+ type of procedure. How can we say individuals are not mature enough to consume alcohol but they can make a physically permanent decision like transitioning?
You're old enough to get killed in the military at 18 but not old enough to make decisions about your own body? Do you think an 18 year old should be able to get an abortion? I'm assuming you're pro-choice like I am, right? Shouldn't we afford others the freedom to make their own decisions? Just crazy how many folks are comfortable taking freedoms from others because they don't understand them. I really wonder how many of y'all know and have meaningfully interacted with transgender people.
As things become more acceptable in society, it shouldn't surprise anyone that there will be more cases. How many homosexuals stayed in the closet, got married, had kids, etc., decades ago that today would have been much more comfortable coming out because it's more accepted? Difficult to say, but there are more kids identifying as gay in school today. But likely not more gay kids. I believe this is true as trans kids as well, but I too am skeptical of the numbers. Certainly there are truly trans kids, but are some just using this as a cry for help, knowing coming out as trans will get them attention one way or another? I would imagine there are some kids who fall into this category. Which it's why important we have mental health available for any and all kids who are crying out for help. They are the professionals who should be able to figure out the root of the issue, and how to manage it going forward.
Keep in mind this same "journalist" responded, after she received criticism, with the claim that we can't trust detransition numbers because the leading studies (showing that they are quite low) are "demonstrably unreliable." The same person who included multiple retracted studies in her articles. Unserious people.

If a dataset of 4 means anything, I think it says what I have been saying all along, as well as the article in the OP, that there is a heavy overlap between identifying as trans at a young age and mental illness.
Homosexuality and transgenderism are two totally different things. One involves physical attraction, the other involves denial of one's sex assigned at birth. You can convince me you're gay, but you can't convince me you should have been born with a penis.
Why? I agree trans and homosexuality are different. But so is every human on the planet. Why isn't there room for both song the billions of us on Earth?
