Rishwain averaged only 5 points a game last year at San Francisco and shot only 24% from three.

Was a bit surprised he was a take out of the portal last year and he did little in the minutes he did play in non-conference.

Until he worked his way in the lineup.

    • Recorded season-highs in minutes, points, field goals made, and three-pointers made at LMU (1/7/23), scoring 18 points on 7/12 shooting with 4 three-pointers in 31 minutes of action
    • Suffered a season-ending lower leg injury at Portland (1/12/23).

Apparently, the HC, you know the man who makes the money to win the games you watch on your couch drinking beer does not share your opinion. I will side with the person winning the games and not potbellying his stomach. Forgive me.

But he was a terrific bench shooter for Golden the previous two years

I actually liked what I saw of him non-conference. He only played 62 minutes, but he was 4 of 10 from 3, and had 13 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals with no turnovers. In addition, his defensive +/- was a +2.8. Kugel’s defensive +/- is a +1.2.

I make them up In all seriousness, do a search for Florida gators men’s basketball stats. Then click on the link for basketball reference. Then scroll down to Advanced Stats, and you will find that and all other kinds of interesting advanced stats. It’s free.

According to CTG on his show this last Saturday Feb 3, he said because of Rishwain's injury that was not fully healed when the team was starting practices he "had a hard time breaking into the lineup." I don't know if you guys saw the show but the player interview was with Rish was outstanding. That guy is a serious team-guy and he is still as pumped as if he was a freshman just stepping onto campus. Super positive young man.

Maybe he could get a medical redshirt.

Rules are very unclear on what qualifies. He can certainly apply for one though.

Resurfaced knee swelling had him out of practice for a couple weeks. He’s been full-go since last week, but the rotation ship has clearly sailed.

    Now comes the real question:

IF he had a real medical problem that held him out and they do not play him again for the remainder of the season, is that enough to grant him medical redshirt status?

Certainly increases the likelihood of him getting approved. This is, of course, assuming that's what he wants and that he'll even apply. I don't have any idea what his plans are for the future.

He has played in only 8 games. I believe that you can play in up to 9 games and still get a medical redshirt if you get a season-ending injury.

I read 30% of the season. Don’t know if that includes postseason or not. What qualifies as season ending is the iffy part.

what if he is that unknown that lights up the tournament? The X factor that no other team accounted for? Golden hasn’t used him or Szymczyk and Szymczyk
Played substantial minutes last year and was cleared to play in January.

it’s hard to prepare for the players that you know are going to play in the NCAA tournament, but it’s impossible to prepare for players that you don’t know are gonna play. Right now, Golden has at least three people on his roster that no teams are really expecting to be factors in the game. So if he can get quality minutes out of two of the three of them or even one of the three it will be a bonus to the team.

Aberdeen sent a crazy message to the basketball world that Golden is a sandbagger.

not a sandbagger, Kugel forced TFG to play Aberdeen a lot. He happened to be hot.

I was thinking the same thing after the Auburn game, pretty good size, good shooter, passer, rebounder and a decent defensive player. Let him spell Will on the wing, makes sense. Maybe even Shimmy to give Condon some rest. These two at least have some experience and will do what coach needs them to do. We will see. These games coming up, these two guys shoot decent percentages on free throws. I would hate if we run out of gas in the first game, that would show we don’t make adjustments and are playing scared. We play better when we keep more guys in the game and rested.

Our coaches eye balls are seared into the backsides of our players every minute of practice, workouts, and meetings. They also know what's going on with classes, travel, extracurriculars, etc.

They know exactly who to play and how much. Although the how much part might vary once they're actually on the floor during a game.
