Your first post, like the OP, was a hypothetical question. Answering a question with a question. So, for one to undermine your point with an ad-hominem, you’d first have to have a point.
Rhetorical question - Wikipedia ... In many cases it may be intended to start a discourse, or as a means of displaying or emphasizing the speaker's or author's opinion on a topic. My first post was a rhetorical question. The question that you referred as stupid was asked in response to an insult. So, there was, in fact a point. Since you didn't like it stated as a rhetorical question, I will attempt to phrase it as statement. If the Democrats were going to cheat in the 2020 and 2024, I don't think that merely having a different name on the Republican ballot would stop them from cheating. I don't think that's nearly effective as the question but, I'm happy to discuss it in either form.
Nope. I've already said Trump is uniquely bad, and that it's not even close. The only caveat I'd make is to limit it to the last 100 years rather than since the country was founded. The closest is Nixon, but he was nowhere near as bad as Trump. One doesn't have to be a history nerd to recognize that history is replete with dictators. The reason? A significant percentage of any population prefer them. It's no less true in America, and despite all the excuses they make for supporting Trump, that's exactly what the MAGA crowd wants. They want to be in a cult, and rather than think for themselves, they want to be told what to believe and do.That's why I say this without equivocation: MAGA republicans are not patriots. They don't love America. They love Trump.
I agree with you, to a large extent, about human nature. I would just add a quote from our founders "Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become more corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters." I believe that, as our culture moves further from its Judeo/Christian roots, our politics will continue to decline towards tyranny. If the grassroots are rotten then there's not a whole lot that politicians can do to fix them. So, Trump, Biden, the next guy or the guy after him. Today's uniquely bad politician is tomorrow's good old days. If you're interested, there's actually some fairly interesting things in the Old Testament pertaining to this subject. One more question about Trump. If Trump is a would-be dictator, then it seems to me that he missed a golden opportunity. He could've seized emergency powers and imposed national lockdowns during COVID but refused to do that, repeatedly, at least that's my remembrance. What do you think?
It has been mentioned in this thread that some of this site's Trump supporters believe that the indictments weren't earned and were political. The truth is that anybody with an IQ over 90 who follows the news even a little bit knows that Trump is a criminal and deserves to have been indicted. As much as some try to hide it, I am confident that everybody on this board has an IQ over 90 and follows the news at least a little bit. NOBODY on this site actually believes the indictments weren't earned and that they were political. When people on this site say that, they are actively and purposely helping Trump to get elected and end democracy in this country by misrepresenting the truth, all in an effort to get the rest of us to lower our guard. And yes...everybody on this site knows Trump plans to end democracy...he already tried, not to mention all of his fascist leaning comments, especially lately.
He did so, but behind the scenes. I continue to think that he did not at all expect to win in 2016. A decades-long campaign against the Clintons, help from Russia, and the mechanics of our electoral college system made him POTUS against all odds. He never intended to leave office. He made many, last-minute changes to DOD and other staff after he lost in 2020. Our nation nearly fell on January 6th and we should all never forget that.
I would support Trump but not my first choice based on reality. And I believe the election was stolen based on reality (not worth arguing about though). Mail in voting for no reason is ripe for fraud that can be covered up. But carry on… Seriously…who honestly believes Joe Biden got a record number of votes? If you told me Obama…Okay. But Biden. Elections became personality over qualifications as the fascist media grew control. The outlier 2016 year caught them off guard. We are at a real tipping point. The majority of the country is not cool with what is happening. And the minority fascists understand this. They are trying to figure this out to keep control.

They might be surprised to find out there are a lot of elderly people (who normally vote republican) that get shut out of the election for whatever reason and do not know how to correct it in time. Republicans could be shooting themselves in the foot here.
Hey, sport, it was a legitimate question based on every other whack job position you have admittedly adopted. To still believe the election was stolen and Biden didn't get those votes after every court case, recount, Cyber Ninja investigation, etc. puts you in a very, very "special" category. Link to a 2019 Washington Post article in which complained by Russian interference in the 2016 campaign. Unlike Trump Hillary Clinton accepted the results of the 2016 election almost as soon as it was called by the media unless I missed it I didn't see anything similar to this from Donald Trump in November or December of 2020. If you have a link to Trump's concession speech please post it since I obviously missed it.
I don't disagree with your first paragraph, though I'm not so sure I agree with your implication about religion. It seems to this cynic, looking at religion here and across the planet, that religion is in essence dictatorial. Christianity is separated from Islam only by degree in my opinion. (BTW, I have no idea whether there's a "god" or not - I'm an agnostic - but all evidence shows he doesn't care about planet earth or its inhabitants anymore than the inhabitants do.) As to your second paragraph, I don't know enough "emergency powers" to know if there was a case for exercising them. I suspect, however, that the case against it was so strong that even his most ardent advisors advised him against it if he hoped to be reelected. I do remember, however, in the final months of his term, he was making a converted effort to get control of the Department of Defense. I surmise this was because he feared he would lose the election, and, indeed, he was already saying it was rigged based upon polls. Thus, he would need the military in order to ignore the election results and seize power. I realize that sounds outlandish, but I honestly put nothing beyond Trump. Losing is to him what kryptonite was to Superman.
