Any game against FSU or Tennessee in the ‘90s is worth revisiting. The magnitude of those games just cannot be overstated. Those wins were just so so joyous and felt so monumental. The 2008 SEC title game against Alabama is another one. Just a massive big game atmosphere and feeling to that game.
I forget the year, but I’d like to see the game we beat FSU in Tallahassee 13-10. Gator fans tore down the goalposts in Doak Campbell and fights erupted.
@Kentucky in 1984. The first official SEC Championship before 6 nasty, hypocritical league presidents took it away from us in the spring of '85. Adrian White with the last minute pick (while UK was knocking on the door) to save the day and the title.
Funny, I was on the USS Nashville when we lost to the Huskers. It was rough , but that was also the year we came from behind to blow out UT. I was on watch and people would come down to update me on UT climbing all over the Gators and I was like, "just you wait!"
1982. I have a buddy that has a framed picture he cut out of the Alligator showing him hanging from one of those goalposts.
I had a lot of vivid memories of that game, particularly that first scoring drive and the sea of people before that game with their fingers up in the air looking for tickets and almost no one holding up tickets to sell.
Ray Graves last game as Gator HC. I hated to see him “kicked upstairs”, but for whatever reason he took the AD spot and Doug Dickey replaced him as HC. Ironically enough, this Gator Bowl pitted those coaches against each other, and the better coach won 14-13. Dickey had a terrible record in bowl games and this was back when schools were proud to receive a bowl bid. I also remember I was not elated over Dickey taking over as Gator HC and it turned out to be some of the most boring years in my memory of Gator football. It was almost a return to the Woodruff days.
'06 NC game. Does it get any better than that given how cocky they were and all the press leading up to the game?
Its hard to tell because the numbers are obscured, but that looks like Willie McGrady obliterating that Bama LB springing Emmitt for a long run. Such a shame he had to give up football and then was taken from this world so young.
I was in Glendale for the Ohio State dismantling. Glorious indeed. I was there for the Blocked kick against SCe. I would have liked to be there for the Athens win! Either that or the first Natty against FSwho? Some of those 90's games against FSU were mighty loud. Lord willing and the creeks don't rise, we might just get back there someday soon. Go Gators.
